There are a few ways to determine if a Fathom Event movie is a DCP (good picture quality) or satellite feed (poor picture quality).
A satellite feed screening (after credits and bonus features) will end with a Fathom screen/logo with elevator music. A DCP screening will end with screen going dark and no music. If it shows up on https://www.bydeluxe.com/en/distribu...d-key-manager/ it is definitely a DCP but some DCP events are not posted. *** DCP site no longer accessible by general public. *** If someone here works for a theater and has access to that site would you please check and see which, if any, Fathom Event(s) are listed on DCP site? Also if your theater receives a DCP to a Fathom Event screening, can you please post about it on here? That way people are aware they are seeing a DCP a few days before event is scheduled to occur. Thanks I want people to know before attending a Fathom Event if it’s a DCP or satellite feed. I created this thread so people who attend screenings can post what they believe they saw. This way we can keep a growing database of Fathom Events and how they were presented. Thank you for creating this thread.
I went to a showing this afternoon. The featurette before the movie consisted of about 9 minutes of interviews with Ralph Macchio/William Zabka/Martin Kove and about 3 minutes of clips from the YouTube TV show. If I had to guess, it was satellite. Although it was advertised on Fathom’s website as “sourced from 2019's 4K restoration”, it didn’t have the detail you would expect if it was a 4K DCP. It ended with the Fathom logo. There was no DCP listed for it on cinema.dcinema.com Searching Twitter for technical issues that might confirm it was satellite, I found this tweet: https://twitter.com/malf922/status/1112463896772861955 |

I forget either Batman and Robin: Return of the Caped Crusaders or Batman and Harley Quinn.. the image quality was so horrible that it looked like it was a worn down VHS Copy being projected.
There should be no reason why these events should be presented in the lowest quality yet for the most part charge full ticket price. |

I will add that one of the Batmans (and put at least one of them) is satellite. Speaking of Batman, I saw Fathom is re-releasing the 4 Batman movies sometime this month. Probably going to be satellite but hopefully I am wrong. Last edited by JMS1223; 04-08-2019 at 10:01 PM. |

I only started taking notes in December but here are two more Fathom screenings from December that I never got around to posting about:
TCM’s Big Screen Classics: White Christmas - Probably satellite. Fathom logo at the end. It didn’t look as good as the DCP that I saw a year earlier. Not a movie but I’ll include it anyways... Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas/The Bells of Fraggle Rock - Probably satellite. Fathom logo at the end. Last edited by whiteberry; 04-01-2019 at 04:38 PM. |

Glad to hear the Halloween screening from 2 years ago was DCP. There was a horrible satellite version I heard someone saw years ago and it sounded dreadful. So glad they upgraded it.

A question for those who work at the movie theater or know about satellite distribution that fathom events uses: If a Fathom event is being presented in satellite, will it be affected by the outside weather (snow, rain, heavy winds, storms, etc) like satellite TV is or is it already stored/downloaded onto something (but low quality)?

I asked because I saw some posts on twitter showing a Fathom event where the screen broke up for a few seconds every few minutes, and it reminded me of how bad weather affects satellite TV.

At least that. Some events are more (especially some of the non-movie events like the Operas). Also certain theaters may charge $14.50 (I guess because the have recliners and a dine-in option) but usually $12.50 or $13.50 around here for the movie events.
