Well, I've been hearing about these restorations forever and I'll probably have to check this out. I was majorly underwhelmed by the recent Lobster editions and have been happy for years with the initial Kino releases, but I'm certainly open when it comes to these movies...

It'll be interesting to see what this looks like; I'm pretty happy with the current BD and just watched it again last week. I love the tinting on it, and I believe this new edition is just B&W, so... don't know if I'll go for it, if it's just a marginal detail up-tick.

The Cohen restoration was first released, on disc, from Eureka a few years ago.

Cohen has a few Buster Keaton films done from 4K scans including Sherlock Jr., Battling Butler, and The Playhouse. Wonder if those will also be announced shortly here?

If it’s the same way as the Merchant/Ivory releases, then it will be ever few months.

How does it compare to the Eureka release in terms of extras?

Releasing as a double feature makes the possible double dip more palatable. This does seem to lose the alternate version of Steamboat Bill Jr., but that was more a curiosity than something I'd watch again.

Haha, I was just about to finally cave and order the Lobster edition. The Lost Weekend yesterday, Buster Keaton 4k restorations today, maybe Warner will announce Angels With Dirty Faces tomorrow......hey, I can dream can't I?

Wait so does this mean Universal is handling US distribution for Entertainment One? I thought Sony was handling that.

EDIT: Found it. Yep, Universal is the new distributor:

I find the pairing slightly annoying since I already have the Steamboat Bill/College set... and oddly this will be the 3rd time I would own Steamboat Bill on blu-ray.

I'd rather they just did a box-set honestly. But it will be nice to finally have the 4K restorations to compare. I never did buy The General so I will finally own that one. For whatever reason that was the only one out of the Kino releases I never picked up, not even the reissued/remastered version.

And that set is a real beauty, too.

I'm happy R:A only viewers will finally get a chance to own these.
MASSIVE upgrade over the Kino releases.

Will definitely get this disc! I'm very happy with the currently available Kino disc of "The General" but "Steamboat Bill, Jr." has room for improvement and I look forward to hearing Carl Davis' score. The old organ score on "Bill" is almost unlistenable...

I've been kicking myself for missing out on the handsome Eureka set from 2017, which was packed with extras. Oh well, glad to have these new restorations on Region A disc, despite the ugly Cohen-brand artwork template. I too would prefer a box set of everything, but I'll take what I can get. I was never going to pay the outrageous price for that Kino box from years ago, and I never got around to getting the singles, so I'm finally going to have some Keaton in my collection.

It's interesting how perspectives can vary. I'm assuming that the organ score in question is the one that was on the late 1990s Kino DVD and which later reappeared as an alternate option on the latter Kino-Lobster blu-ray of the film (incorrectly attributed though). If so, the score is the work of Gaylord Carter. That score is actually cited by many silent film enthusiasts as not only one of the great theater organ scores but also one of the greatest silent film scores in general. It just goes to show you how true that old saying is - different strokes for different folks.
