I added a pic of my site search to my post so you can see exactly what I'm seeing.

Edit: Here it is again.

Default Roku App Update

The Roku app just updated (you may need to manually trigger the update by going to the system update menu on your Roku, which also checks for app updates). It completely changes the look of the app. The watchlist is now entirely accessible and extras are easily available for movies (at least with the one movie I checked, which was To Sleep With Anger). I have no idea if the app still boots you out of random movies right before they end, but I am guessing and hoping that got fixed too.

Same price on BluRay's?
People start to move streaming and selling his physical copies?
Criterion says BluRay sales figures are UP over the last couple of years.

Personally, I like both streaming and buying discs. For every film I MIGHT no longer buy on disc, there’s one that I streamed and decided I wanted to buy. Seems foolish to deprive one’s self from the huge number of titles Criterion/Janus has available to stream that will probably not make it to disc release. It’s a golden age, in terms of high quality access to films.

Love the Criterion Channel!

When the glitch first occurred, it would let me resume and watch an additional five seconds before kicking me out. But now it's stuck on the final five second section and it will not go further. Have tried it two days in a row now with the same issue. Nothing wrong at all with the preceding film or this one until this glitch. I'm using the Criterion app on my tv.

So Dark the Night is not a great film, but this is an annoying hiccup to be seconds away from finishing it. Apart from this, I'm enjoying the app and the streaming quality seems to be excellent. On to The Big Heat.
Are you on a Roku? I’ve heard this is happening with some titles. Apple TV and Fire TV Stick play the title through without a hitch.

There's stuff here in HD that isn't on Criterion blu-ray. Witchcraft Through the Ages, Godzilla movies, 1927 King of Kings... all these were released on DVD not blu-ray. But here there are in HD! The whole Olympics box appears to be up for streaming. Fritz Lang's Human Desire- not released in the US yet. Interesting stuff!

Does anyone know how long titles will remain available on the site? For example are the films with equivalent Criterion blu/dvd releases permanently available with the special presentations revolving?

We didn't have Filmstruck available in Canada (much to my chagrin) so I don't know how the catalogue worked. Netlfix obviously drops titles quite a bit.

The watchlist only holds 20 movies, and no captions on English language movies, kinda disappointing

What are you using to watch? Yesterday using the Roku app I noticed it only held/showed 20 or so on my watchlist, but they updated the app last night and now it shows my entire watchlist of over 50 movies.

I had captions on The Elephant Man, but that's the only English language film I've watched thus far.

One small request I would like to see is the ability to click the names attached to each film, i.e., say I'm watching The Player and i want to see everything that Altman's name is attached to, I would like to be able to click his name and open an entire list. Sure, I can search his name, but just a small, not the end of the world, type request. Same with actors.

The Janus Films titles (and their extras) should be on there permanently. The stuff licensed from the major US studios or other indie labels, will only be up a short time.

How long is a "short time" though?

Would like to watch the Columbia Noir titles... but without support for Chrome/Chromecast I appear to be SOL.

It's a TCL TV which has a Roku menu and apps. As DaBargainHunta mentioned, there is an update for the app today. And I just updated it.

Now an error box--perhaps this is instead of it kicking me out--appears over the film that says "Could not play content, Error code -3, OK". If you hit OK, it kicks you out of the film and it also doesn't remember where you were in the film.

But if you don't hit anything, the movie keeps playing underneath the error box. The film is darker and obscured and it's not suitable to watching for anything for more than a minute or two, but I was able to finish So Dark the Night at least.

Seems like they are getting there, but not quite yet.

I'm wondering the same thing. It would be nice if they would give you a date when things might disappear.

I'm excited because I have like a legit, non-speculative, answer to this question that everyone's asking.

In Criterion's Launch Lineup post a few weeks ago they stated:

Quote:
Films in the permanent streaming library will be continuously available to all Criterion Channel subscribers at all times, regardless of whether they are being spotlighted in thematic programming. Films licensed specifically for featured thematic programming may be available for shorter periods, but all films will be available for a minimum of ninety days unless otherwise noted.

Yes, I read that too, and still have the question. I would “speculate” they will add an expiration date thing at some point, perhaps on the web site version (as w/FS), but a more general “expiring soon” category on the streaming apps? The more important question at this point would to find out WHICH films are in that expiration category, as opposed to the permanent Janus-based library. At Filmstruck, some of the “Criterion Editions” were limited (to even one month) but others (perhaps Janus films holdings?) did not expire.

Thank you for this! I missed it, so good to know. I would certainly still like to see an expiration date though, hopefully that's something they consider.
