Default SD titles streaming in 4K HDR

Apologies if this has been asked or clarified already but I can't find anything on here.

I have some older titles that were definitely only redeemed in SD quality in my iTunes library, Inception, Harry Potter, a few others that are listed under the HDR listing in the TV app and stream in 4K. Is this normal or some kind of error?

They’ve always been listed under the 4K/HDR sections of the TV App on both ATV & iOS since those sections were made available, they shouldn’t be playing back in 4K though.
Are you sure they do actually play back in 4K, what does it show when you swipe down on the remote during playback?

I never checked on the apple TV ui, only on my receiver, it shows 3140x2860 at 24 hz and my TV displayed the dolby vision badge to indicate it has switched to HDR automatically.

That’s the resolution your Apple TV is set to, it doesn’t change if you’re playing SD content.
The only way to know for sure is if the 4K icon shows in the banner when you swipe down on the Siri remote during playback.
If it does then that’s certainly win win for you.

It's a known error.

I have close to about a dozen of these SD + HDR titles. And are they ugly when played.
They do not play in real 4k they are actually 480p upscaled with HDR.

I have the real 4k of The Harry Potters,Inception,The Dark Knight ect in itunes I also have these same titles in fake SD + HDR in my account. The old warner titles has a different content id, so they still show in my account..

The error is these SD titles play with HDR. And most people think they got free 4k because they show up with all your other 4k titles, you didn't they are SD + HDR.

If you can still buy the title you do not have a HD or 4k.

As Seth mentions above, you’ve got SD with Dolby Vision.
