It's coming from Second Sight later this year. If by some chance it turns out to be region locked, then I'd fully expect to see someone else release the film as well before the year is over. Either way, there will be one, if not two new editions before 2020 for purchase.

The Blu Rays have been confirmed to be region locked on the SS release.

When was this announced? Comments section on a facebook comment? I haven't been glued to every single piece of info that's come out but thought I was abreast of the important bits such as region locking.

Even with that in mind then, I still feel like this is coming from someone in the US later this year as well. Seems like your typical September - November BIG announcement that folks like to save for the summer announcements.

In regards to Dawn of the Dead, two heads are better than one. That is to say, that two companies on either side of the pond might have more pull (read: $$$) than one company on one side.

With Second Sight's confirmation that their release of Dawn (and Martin) will be region-locked unlike their recent releases of The Changeling and When a Stranger Calls, it stands to reason that some US company is sitting on a very big announcement.

Agreed; this must have a U.S. label, too. But who would it be?

Isn't DAWN OF THE DEAD supposed to be a 4k disc as well though? I mean, guess it doesn't help those who haven't upgraded to 4k players yet, but for those that have....no region coding on that disc at least.

Or did something change that I missed?

But, as has been mentioned, it's decent odds that another company would have helped pool the funds to get the rights to both Romero flics. I'd guess between Shout and Arrow (leaning more Shout, since I'd see Arrow being the UK partner if they were involved....but, I also have no idea). Has Criterion ever done a region split/shared release with another label before?

4K remaster with a 4K UHD and a standard Blu Ray for all three cuts

Apparently, Shout! Factory is sitting on a DCP of Gargoyles. I believe this film was included in their acquisition of Westchester Films, a few years back. It looks like the Hen's Tooth DVD is now OOP, so hopefully a Blu-Ray is forthcoming.

Walt said he was trying to licence it a while back, so it may be that it comes from Scorpion. Either way I hope we see it on Blu eventually.

I remember Gargoyles used to play on TV all the time. Like a Saturday afternoon flick. Good stuff.

Somebody. Anybody.

We can rule out Arrow most likely since they'd have released it in both regions, for sure. So it'll be down to either Shout!/Scream or Kino, the two companies with enough moola to throw around.

You'd think Arrow would've announced it, or at least hinted at it, if they had it. Second Sight is getting all the thunder right now. Not that a U.S. label couldn't generate some thunder with an announcement, but Second Sight is doing everything right. They're making me want that release intensely. It's sounding like it will be the definitive release. We know Scream Factory would definitely not announce it if they had it. So who knows? Maybe they do.

Yeah, I was thinking that if a US label does have Dawn of the Dead and waits too long to announce it, they could lose a lot of potential sales from people who have already gotten the Second Sight release. Would love to see a domestic release but if Second Sight is all we get, at least it's better than nothing. My brother is planning to pre-order it the second it's available since he's got a region-free player.

I also think we can’t rule out Well Go. Their pockets are very deep as well. I was shocked when they announced the Phantasm set, but I won’t be if they were to announce Dawn of the Dead and Martin at this point.

Any chance of Synapse? Don May teased something big and said they are dedicating all their resources to have it done quick.

That's true. And they were rumoured to have Dawn a couple of years ago too.

Hmm, I highly doubt it. They're a two-person company. They wouldn't have the cashola that Rubinstein wants, I'd think.

I'd say Severin is also a likely candidate since they're helping to produce the new bonus features. But you'd think if they were releasing the movie itself, they'd have said something by now. Plus, they've produced special features for a lot of the boutique labels.

Wouldn't you guys like to see a collectors edition of ENEMY MINE??? not only has it been out of print since the Twilight Time pressing but it has always been Bare Bones on special features. Why this movie has never got any love is beyond me. If MAC AND ME can get a release and with SOME features...why not ENEMY MINE??

He responded to multiple comments confirming it is NOT Dawn. They passed on it.
