Way to go! Are any of them Z-Wave or ZigBee or Wi-Fi controlled? If so, which do you like best?

They want a healthy citizenry. What's wrong with that? They're not banning junk food outright. Sure, you'll pay a premium, but it beats the alternative. You're at least in Europe, where the food is traditionally much better in quality than it is in the USA. You guys use less preservatives and don't pasteurize as much as they do here.

Also, if you have that much money in disposable income for your physical media then you have more than enough to eat well.

Never heard of those, to be honest. Mine are all General Electric LED bulbs. They are not Wi-Fi controlled; I am still content to flip a switch to turn my lights on or off. It's part of my exercise regimen.

I have had to exchange one faulty bulb that would flicker and another one that would only work intermittently, so I am not entirely impressed with the reliability of the GE LED bulbs.

I do like how they look and most have been working great. I have been using these since 2015. They claim to last for 10 years, not that they guarantee that at all.

If they taxed Americans by the pound, it would be possible to pay off the national debt.

We are also paying more in taxes than these 60 Fortune 500 companies; each of which paid NOTHING in taxes for 2018 and all of which were considered to be profitable; the link lists every single one of them:

https://itep.org/notadime/

Notice that Netflix is on that list along with Amazon.

"The report finds that in 2018, 60 of America’s biggest corporations zeroed out their federal income taxes on $79 billion in U.S. pretax income. Instead of paying $16.4 billion in taxes at the 21 percent statutory corporate tax rate, these companies enjoyed a net corporate tax rebate of $4.3 billion."

Not only did these 60 companies not pay anything in taxes, 57 of them got a refund!

As the late wealthy hotelier Leona Helmsley, nicknamed The Queen Of Mean, infamously said:

"We don't pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes."

Not to worry; I'm told that the meek shall inherit the Earth...or what's left of it.

Ain't that the truth. Unfortunately, we can't afford to hire clever accountants to save us some money unlike millionaires.

Same here in the UK. The Inland Revenue will chase someone for a few lousy pounds if they suspect that person hasn't declared everything, yet happily let large corporations pay just a pittance.

If you work during the day, how are you supposed to access your tv?

I think climate change is hugely important issue. One that is way more important than anyone figures. But somehow you managed to take a turn into insanity with it and make it almost comical.

1) Electricity can be created from many different green sources (hydro, geothermal, wind, tidal....) not just solar

2) none green sources aqre not necesserily bad. For exampole Garbadge naturaly produces methane (extremely poluting), so if we take that methane and burn it to make electricity, we lower the polution created by the garbadge while getting something useful so it would be worst for climate change to stop the polution created by using the methane from garbadge to make electricity

3) polution is a ammatter of degrees. what I mean is this

https://www.saskpower.com/Our-Power-...apture-Project

Unit #3 created electricity from Coal, in 2014 instead of decommissioning it they decided to add Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology to get the following result

Quote:
Capable of reducing the SO2 emissions from the coal process by up to 100 per cent and the CO2 by up to 90 per cent.
if we did something similar with every poluting power plant and factory the wiorld would be a much better place.

4) why do you think spolar= home. Why can't it be large solar farms or other similar stuff?

5) like others said batteries (and just to tie in to 4 https://www.engineering.com/Electron...Just-Fine.aspx

Do they though? This is the same government that wants us to work until we are 70. They want to control our lives and tell us what to eat, what to do in our spare time etc. It’s a nanny state and it’s only going to get worse.

I can afford to buy many discs because I work damn hard. Why should hard working people be crippled because they want a few of life’s luxuries? Will the government be living on portion of meat a week? Will they ****!

Well, yeah, they do. Who else is going to do the work? If you're sick then you obviously can't work and will possibly be more of a drain on society than normal.

It's the same here, working until we're 70. I am fortunate that I have career that will pay me a pension and a deferred retirement account - I'm already completely vested. I will not be receiving traditional social security because I don't pay into that system. In my case, I don't have to wait until 70 to retire.

I visited Denmark and Sweden a couple of years ago and had some of the best and freshest food I've ever had. Their pastries were glorious. They have everything your culinary heart desires. But if you want sodas and junk food then you will pay a slight premium. They're not banning them, they just don't want you to get fat or sickly. It was easy to spot the non-native folk - everyone that wasn't Danish or Swedish was fat. Scandinavians are generally beyond fit.

I pay income tax and I pay NI. I shouldn’t be getting told what I can and can’t eat. That’s a dictatorship. I rule my home, not the government.

You're not, though. You may have to pay more, but it's not being banned. There's a distinction.

I think half the problem is that the government pays too much attention to so-called "experts" whose opinions on how healthy various foods are seem to change like the weather, and the tabloid media plays along with it.

Take for example wine - one minute a glass of wine a day is good for you, then the next month they'll say it's harmful. The same goes for anything from tea/coffee, meat, etc.

I am a big proponent of the Keto - Intermittent Fasting regiment, so meat is a plentiful component of my daily diet. Never felt better. Even if they were going to tax meat 20% out here, since that's pretty much all I eat, it would be wash. I don't eat fast food too often. I also drink spirits as opposed to beer and wine, so I save money on that end.

The only taxes I see that are constantly being imposed on consumers is that of cigarettes and marijuana. I don't smoke either, so it doesn't affect me.

I did read a report that New York wanted to tax people more for their soda pop. Fine with me. The USA is the fattest country in the world. Maybe that'll curb habits or scale it down a bit.

Yeah, with them and Jamie Oliver constantly on their high horse imo.

Taxes on red meat and processed meat (40% the latter) are only going to cripple low income and working class families. I read somewhere we should eat insects for protein! Are these people for real.

In a country where some working families have to use food banks, I just can’t take our government seriously. There solution for everything is stick a tax on it imo.

Soda? Already taxed here. If we hang around long enough, farting will be taxed.

Yes it's the same here - it's a nice source of revenue for any government. Like yourself, I don't smoke either so that doesn't affect me, but I enjoy a glass or two of wine with a meal. However, I'm not a spirit drinker.

Spirits are keto-friendly.

Sorry to further the thread off topic... We did the Keto diet initially, but are doing the intermittent fasting now. Which isn’t too bad when I’m working, since I do 4/10’s. However when I’m off it can be a bear if I’m not keeping myself busy. Anyway, that’s all I have. We now return you to your thread already in progress: Digital vs Physical
