Did you even read my post? Even if that is the argument, the point is that people sit A LOT doing many other things, including looking at their phones. Why would TVs specifically be targeted above all else? And how would they be able to implement a tax that would target TVs specifically when most services such as electricity do WAY more than just power our TVs?

You can keep posting this kind of asinine non-sense if you want to. But if you keep coming up with crazier and crazier conspiracy theories as time goes on. Just when we think your crazy concerns couldn't get any more ridiculous, you somehow outdo yourself.

So just keep in mind that if you are going to continue to post this kind of ridiculous BS, then you are in no position to whine about how people respond to you when their replies aren't exactly nice or friendly, as you often have in the past.

Yes, of course I read it. To be fair I did say ‘screen tax’. That’s not specific to TV sets.

What’s crazy about it? The government has crucified smokers. It was the right decision to ban smoking in public places but they are trying to stop it altogether and that’s not fair on people who enjoy smoking.

Now, if some goody two shoes specialist comes along and declares sitting as bad for you as tobacco, what do you think is going to happen? Tax computers, tax TVs, tax phones.

Soda tax. All drinks with a certain amount of sugar in them.

Wouldn't it make more sense to tax chairs?

Tax ‘screen time’ is what I’m saying basically. All the things that contribute to sitting too long. number 1 being computers and TVs number 2.

We've had computers for like 40 years and TVs for like twice that. Why haven't out tax hungry governments gone after them already?

And why would they go after TVs now anyway? According to you people are watching less TV than ever before and that trend is only going to grow.

If they tax anything it'll phones and watches.

And they'll be able to use that money to pay retirement benefits.

They can tax a bunch of lazy millennials and give the money to old people.

Talk about a win/win.

Why? Lack of data on health risks. Can’t get through s month now without reading a new report or survey.

Personally, I would rather snuff it at 44 than go without films for the rest of my life.

You definitely are in dire need of a number 2; you're beyond full of it.

You are making me appreciate alchav more and more; he only predicts the demise of one thing. There is at least downwards trending sales data that places his prediction in the realm of sanity and reality. Your predictions about an indefinite future could employ a team of shrinks for the indefinite future.

You have predicted either the outright end of, or the decimation of:

TVs
TV shows in their present length and form
movies
horizontally framed video content
non-interactive video content
The electrical power grid itself
Pizza and other craveable foods
The tobacco industry

You have likely killed off even more than these, but I can't keep count of all the bats whizzing about in your belfry.

You said this moments ago:

"Look how the tobacco industry has been virtually demolished in a few short years."

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=14812

Actually, the global tobacco industry was worth $888 Billion in 2018. It is projected to reach $1.124 Trillion by 2024. I think that when sales go up year over year it is called growth. A trillion dollar market is what you call "demolished?"

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...300797851.html

Clearly, you do not even bother to do rudimentary fact checking thereby compounding the ridiculousness of your claims.

And you would still be wrong.

The U.K. tobacco market was worth 22.8 billion Euros in 2018 up from 21.9 billion Euros in 2017. It is projected to keep growing as well.

Well, duh, that's part of the tobacco market. How the tobacco is consumed is irrelevant. Just how deep do you want this hole that you insist on digging?

I live in California and we're a WORLD economy and we're only a state. We overtook the UK in GDP but are right behind Germany, and we have variables in which we are taxed on certain things. Alcohol and tobacco are definitely taxed at higher rates. We have to pay for bags at the grocery stores unless we bring our own bags. In California we also have to pay for an e-waste charge for large televisions. These amounts are negligible because we have an amazing quality of life. It's friggin' California. Anything and everything is here. Yes, we're a liberal state, but we're really free to do anything.

I don't see anything wrong with doctors coming out and saying that living a style of sitting around all day, watching tv, or surfing the net will kill you. I'll believe that. Get out there and exercise if you don't want to keel over. Stop eating trash food and get fit. You'll be a bigger burden when you fall ill or die.

Trash food and vices are not going anywhere. Will you possibly pay more for them? Sure, but no one is BANNING them. That's the operative word which I think you're getting confused on. No one will ban junk food, alcohol, tobacco, television, electricity, etc. Not in this lifetime.

I do agree that your paranoid narrative needs adjustment, because it's just not the truth or even rational. The sky is NOT falling.

Continually raising taxes on items until they become astronomically expensive is essentially banning stuff, especially for the poor or working class people.

The idea of governments telling people what they can eat and what they can do in their spare time is putrid to me. I would rather die than bend to that. I pay taxes and I pay NI. That entitles me to live my life the way I want to. Who the hell are they to tell people how to live their lives? It will end up like North Korea if we go down that slippery slope.
It’s nice that you live in a delightful, always sunny California but a huge chunk of the world doesn’t live like that. Certain parts of England, if you go out exercising in the evening you will probably get stabbed.

Vapers are there because people are trying to quit traditional cigarettes. It’s a false profit because the industry is failing to attract enough younger people. It’s not a growth market anymore imo. Those profits in the U.K. will come crashing down in a few years because only around 0.2% of young people are starting off with e-cigarettes. In my opinion, that is a industry that has been hugely affected by taxes and smoking bans.
