In certain parts of London, yes true. And that useless mayor does absolutely nothing about it. Instead, he prefers to concentrate on taxing older vehicles and raising more revenue through congestion charges, while doing sweet FA when climate change protesters bring parts of the city to a standstill. I don't live in London and very rarely ever go there anyway, but if I did live there, I'd be furious about paying my taxes to keep that cretin in office. Sorry, don't mean to turn this into politics.

And while I think you are being paranoid about a bunch of taxes hypothetically being imposed to discourage people from sitting in one spot for too long (be it watching TV or anything else), and while I of course very much enjoy watching movies, TV, etc... IF sitting too frequently for extended periods of time genuine does significantly increase the odds of the average person getting cancer, then on some level shouldn't discouraging that and trying to get people to move around more be a good thing on some level? Not only are you hitting all new levels of paranoia with your concerns about the crazy things that you think will come along and prevent you from watching movies on a large TV, but you are simultaneously acting like trying to prevent cancer is this horrible, evil thing that we should all rally against if it even remotely potentially could effect sitting on our asses and watching movies. To say that your priorities are out of whack is putting it very mildly. You may seriously want to consider getting some professional help. |

![]() Of course cancer is horrific and of course we should take advice seriously BUT where does the line gets drawn? We have to enjoy life to a certain degree otherwise what’s the point? Everything is bad for you here days. Stress is known to cause cancer and all kinds of other illnesses, yet are the government going to stop people having to work 40-50 hour weeks? Poverty causes illness, are the government going to help us out there? Like I said, where is the line drawn? Work hard, go home and you have to exercise all night rather than watch a film or tv. No ******* way! I would rather be dead. If that makes me crazy, then so be it. |

Smoking is indeed very bad for your health.
So is beer. So is meat in large quantities. So is drugs So is excessive stress. So is radiation from cell towers (imo) So what? It’s freedom of choice. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke. But if people want to, it’s their choice. I know someone ho smokes because it helps to calm their nerves for example. My ancestors fought in a world war so we wouldn’t live in a dictatorship. Yet, people are so willing to be told how to live, it’s embarrassing. Have you ever seen 1984? |

I know you guys enjoy my predictions, so here is another few.
Spending too long sitting watching tv will be declared a health epidemic. Customers will be restricted to 2 hours television per day. (Not all at once) Binge watching will be banned. Netflix and the like will not be permitted to release episodes all at once. If viewers are detected trying to watch more than one episode at a time, it will be blocked. All service providers will be forced to shoot 30 minute episodes, rather than 1 hour. Films will be no longer than 90 minutes with mid film break. This will all be implemented within the next decade. Obviously, this would also affect gaming. These rules would be revised and no doubt tv viewing time will be decreased FURTHER. |

I don't know how this thread got off the rails but I have to say living in America, you guys don't get it. Some states don't even have an income tax. You don't even have a VAT. Hell, you can write off your friggin mortgage interest.
Certain governments in countries like Britain and Canada would do anything, ANYTHING, to dream up new revenue and pretend it's for the good of the people. Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it won't happen. |

By the way, the thread is not really off the rails. The discussion relates to the future of home media. It’s about as serious as it gets. The very choice of watching a film is at stake here. |

If anyone should have the internet taken away from them, it is you. All it does is scare the hell out of you. There, I just gave you something new to worry about. ![]() You are now beyond any doubt the most absurd poster on this website. I am not going to argue with you because no amount of reasoning and no number of supporting citations will have any impact upon you. You have made several comments now about how you'd rather be dead than to live in a world where movies disappear and craveable foods are banned, effectively, by taxation when neither has happened nor is there any evidence that either will happen. There is nothing normal about this behavior and you should avail yourself of professional help out of an abundance of caution. You are turning this thread into Steedeel's Paranoia Parlor. It makes the days of my ISP rants look downright desirable in comparison. The only thing that keeps me from laughing at your posts until I pass out from exhaustion is the concern that you really live in this constant state of anxiety. You have real issues. I live comfortably on a pension that is likely much smaller than the income of almost anyone posting here. I eat/ drink what I want, when I want. I watch what I want, how I want, and when I want. None of that is going to change until the Grim Reaper comes calling for me. |

I don’t see anything outrageous here? Already, there has been talk of limiting children’s access to social media by having a timer that logs them off after a set time. Why is it such a stretch for you to believe this wont happen with adults in regards to movies and tv access IF it is proven beyond all doubt that sitting too long causes cancer? Remember a while back, that guy who ran the ‘Time Well Spent’ campaign? Within months, tech companies had introduces the screen time function that encouraged users to spend less time on their mobile devices. That was rapid and just goes to show how quick things can change. I mean, mobile phone manufacturers and tech companies were under pressure to introduce the scheme. "Talk" is cheap. Ever heard that before? "Talk" alone proves nothing. All of the things that you fear will disappear are still being massed produced and are being enjoyed by millions, even billions, of people across the globe. There is no evidence that any of these things are disappearing or are being "banned" by excessive taxation. Parents can, and should, decide how much time their children spend on any activity. I sit for extended periods when reading. By your thinking, that would imply that books themselves are at risk of being taxed to extinction. I sit while doing a great number of things and none of them are in any danger of being taxed to oblivion. Octagon is right, the only answer is to tax chairs! ![]() I said I was not going to argue with your madness; it requires treatment and I'm not qualified to provide it. I try to be understanding to your viewpoints but there are limits. Any government official that placed unreasonably burdensome limits on people's leisure time would be voted out in the U.S. and I'm fairly certain the U.K. as well. Though given the current political state in the U.S. I'm beginning to believe people will vote against their best interest just to spite the "other" side. It truly boggles the mind what people will defend when it's "their guy" doing it. |

They're not telling you that you can't do these things. They're just saying that if you choose to imbibe, eat trash, etc., you will pay a premium on those foods and vices. It's not prohibition. We're also the most obese country in the world. Who do you think fits the bill when an uninsured obese person falls ill or dies due to obese related causes and they do not have healthcare? The taxpayers do, but hey, socialized healthcare is bad, right? Yeah, it may be sunny out here but I never said it was necessarily any safer. I don't live in a good neighborhood at all. The cost of living in CA is outrageous, as well. I am under no obligation to stay in this state. |

You don't even like sunny weather, by your own statement, so no need for you to fret about not being able to live in California. I did from 2003-2015, in the city of Laguna Niguel, a rather expensive coastal view community, but ever rising exorbitant housing costs and my wee pension made moving to the wilds of rural Illinois necessary. I loved living there and I miss it, but to live there now would leave me no money for anything else. |

The point is that there is ZERO comparison between living conditions in the U.K. to living conditions in North Korea. Our nations are not even remotely anything like North Korea nor are they in ANY danger of becoming anything like North Korea. The extreme hyperbole that you use only makes you look more the whack-a-doodle than you typically appear.
