With a 4K disc player you will be able to compare both at long last. If you are like many people, the choice will be to enjoy both in some ratio of the two.
That was the original plan after getting my UHD Sony, but my Streaming is Fantastic to me even the 4K. If I was going to get an UHD Player it would have to be the UB9000, and my CFO would never okay that. Thanks but I'm happy with my set up, and I don't need a 4K Player just to Post comparisons.

You don't have your own money? You can't purchase things without checking with someone else?

That was just my way of saying, I don't need to buy something that I really don't need!

Just let her buy something pricey that she wants first; then she can't object to you doing the same.

You don't absolutely have to have a premium priced model like the Panasonic UB9000, either. The 9000 has features that you can easily live without; it is not like you own a projector set-up. There are many great players for far less money.

It is not about need, either, it's about sheer enjoyment!

You can hate it all you want but it's their movie. Whether to make it publicly available isn't up to you, it's up to them. Cause it's their movie. They own it. It belongs to them.

I fully understand who owns the actual movie. They can insert someone mooning the camera with their pimply buttocks while the audio plays smooching sounds at each movie's midway mark if they so choose.

The point is that they can not retroactively alter the version that I have purchased on physical media. They can do this at will with streamed content.

And, yes, I can hate their cowardly gutless political correctness all I damn well please. Thanks for giving me your permission.

Purchased on physical media? That's a nice euphemism.

Indeed. Warners have been editing their Tom & Jerry cartoons on DVD which featured 'Mammy Two Shoes' - even changing her voice on some of the shorts. Also any "blackened" faces were removed on some cartoons, yet on some of the other shorts, they were left untouched. Very bizarre.

More an accurate description.

Well, the retailers are kinda funny about me having to pay for my discs before I take them home. So, a purchase occurs for the physical object at the point of sale, hereafter collectively known as physical media; I purchase more than just one format.

In the 30+ years of my collecting content, none of my purchased movies or TV shows on physical media have ever been modified after I bought them.

Which retailer carries a BD-R of Song of the South? Or are you talking about buying the blank BD-R?

I own an extensive collection of those uncensored Tom & Jerry cartoons along with an even larger collection of Looney Tunes from the '30s and 40s.

I have the unadulterated original Star Wars trilogy and the extended cut of John Wayne's The Alamo among other rarities.

Archiving is just one of the many benefits of owning physical media.

The movie in question was available on laserdisc, maybe DVD, too, in Japan in the '90s. You can still find and buy these fully licensed products, albeit at a premium now. There are other sources as well that may, or may not, be as legitimate.

It is a global economy and that there internet thingy allows you to shop all over the globe.

I have long had the habit of backing up my rare content to BD-R discs, and, yes, these were purchased.

If you wish to interrogate me further, allow me to hire an attorney first.

I have the Tom & Jerry 'Golden Collection Vol. 1' on blu-ray which does feature the cartoons in uncut form, but it doesn't appear Warners is in any rush to release a second volume.

The only other uncensored cartoons I have are from my VHS collection which I copied over onto DVD. They're not in the best condition unfortunately, but it's either an uncut cartoon in VHS quality or a pristine quality print that has been hacked by a snowflake.

Mine are on laserdisc, which I have backed up to dvd media; they look and sound quite good. I have three volumes of Tom & Jerry; he was called "Jasper" initially. I have 5 volumes, nearly 50 hours worth, of Looney Tunes cartoons from the '30s & '40s. I retain 179 titles on laserdisc as many of them are rare.

I own The Keep on laserdisc, but it is a little rough looking, but certainly watchable. I also own the somewhat controversial Godfather Trilogy 1901-1980 where all three films were edited into one mammoth movie with about an hour of footage added as well.

Physical media has allowed me to retain all of these gems and more.

Do you really hate it though? After all, it makes your original copies that much more valuable.

I don't sweat it too much. If you absolutely must have the original version of something, it will be online somewhere to buy or stream.

As I have no plans to ever sell my collection, the value of these rarer titles only concerns me should I ever need to replace them.

While my "hatred" is exaggerated for humorous effect, I do hate that these versions are effectively lost for many people.

Nothing that keeps me up at night, mind you, just the principle of the thing.

I take my hat off to you, that's one heck of a cartoon collection you have there. I've never owned any laserdiscs, I'm sorry to say, but the VHS editions from the late 80's were released by MGM/UA here in the UK.

Sadly, they only had 8 cartoons per volume and even though I bought every volume available, there were still many of the original Fred Quimby shorts missing as each volume included some of the later Chuck Jones shorts from the 60's. These later cartoons don't compare to the earlier shorts in my opinion.
