That's a mistake for sure. While not all great, there are still a number of them that are fantastic. IFC/Magnet Releasing/RLJ films are to modern horror what so many of our cult classics were in the 80's. It's the reason I started the "Recommend a modern Indie horror film" thread some years back as I kept stumbling into great release after great release and no one on site really had a place to discuss them. I've even gone so far as to create my own Indie category in my collection count here on site. I won't go into other labels films, but here's stuff I recommend from IFC for sure...

-The Autopsy of Jane Doe
-The Babadook
-Baskin
-A Dark Song
-Don't Knock Twice
-Would You Rather

I'm also expecting that I'll soon add "The Hallow" to that list based on the various amounts of Praise I've seen for it, but I just picked up the film last week and hadn't gotten around to watching it yet. I know some folks didn't like The Babadook, but I feel like Would You Rather would be a great jumping on point as that film is fantastic and stars Mr. Jeffrey Combs in one of the lead roles.

There is so much wonderful unknown indie horror out there that blows away anything coming from the major studios and more than that it often times feels very much like it successfully emulates the feeling of the horror boom of the 1980's with it's fresh approaches and unique content. Most IFC/indie films are fresh in a way that you don't get from major studios and at times even from the cult classics we all adore.

heads up that THE REPTILE is $19.99 right now on Amazon (as well as SILENT HILL)...

This seems to be as good as it gets for Scream titles lately....

It's a good thing there's a bunch of other labels putting out Blu-rays because I would've been going through some serious Scream Factory withdrawal. They literally have NOTHING I want to buy at the moment. Picked up Sarah T because the price went down but it's a 70's TV movie. I need good, cheesy 80's horror movies

They’re just matching Best Buy like they usually do.

I just found out in the Vinegar Syndrome forum that it looks like Scream Factory may have the 1988 Linda Blair film GROTESQUE, since Shout! previously released a DVD along with other Roger Corman pictures. I would love to see a Blu-ray release of this film.

I'd take it. Blair has a great watchability, even in sub-par movies.

Best Buy hasn't been offering pre-orders on much of any Shout/Scream titles lately. I don't even see any of the June titles on the site. For whatever reason, they're being allowed to offer July titles at normal discounts.

Hopefully Amazon will price match Lust for a Vampire soon. I wasn't planning on pre-ordering The Reptile but I was thinking about catching up on Hammer titles this summer anyway.

Here's my rant. I am happy to purchase direct from Shout, I placed a few orders over the past few months. For awhile, Amazon prices DID NOT dip below MSRP until after release date. Currently, almost all the titles I Pre-ordered from Shout are 3-4 dollars cheaper on Amazon(I won't gripe about SPACE:1999 because of the tat) and a few on Shout's site are also cheaper. I just would like for the MSRP stay in effect until the release date.

I honestly don't mind spending a little more but, for the amount I pre-ordered I could have purchased another film. The early release is a great bonus but, not at $3-$4 a pop.

Rant done.

Anyone know if Scream Factory would release films that others have, like Severin, Scorpian, Arrow, or Kino Lober

If they could get the license and feel that they could offer something new that would make them money, I would think that they would.

Hopefully. I don't buy from other labels. The only one I buy from is SF. They need to get everything.

Why? You just like paying more money? That's like saying you'll only buy your groceries at the gas station...

I still pre-order Shout Factory releases directly from their site, usually months in advance.

With big box sets, the price difference usually ends up being roughly the same. With smaller releases, the dollar difference is usually negligible.

The Collector's Edition items are where I tend to get hit the hardest, especially since I usually give away my posters, but it's only a couple of dollars here or there, and I like to support the company directly.

It's also a trouble-free endeavor. If I order a big batch of titles, then Shout ships them all to me separately as they are released with no charges.

Why not just buy those releases from Severin, Scorpion, Arrow or Kino.

Seriously though.

I love Shout!/Scream Factory a lot but I still buy releases from a lot of other companies as well. I've got quite a number of Arrow titles. A few from Severin and Vinegar Syndrome. Scorpion. Kino. Even the dreaded Code Red.

Spread the wealth!

I buy a lot random releases but the 3 places that get constant business from me is Vinegar Syndrome, Ronin & Scream.
