The Kaleidescape system use to be over $15,000 and prices have come down a lot over the years. More then half its original price.
Hopefully in the future the Kaleidescape system well allow consumers to plug in their own 14TB hard drive for around $500. Then the Kaleidescape download service would be a lot more popular. Now if Kaleidescape were to create a free streaming app that worked with all 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players with a 1Gbps network connection. Then many people would buy movies from Kaleidescape. Perhaps one day VUDU or Netflix would purchase the Kaleidescape company just to get their streaming app technology that offers 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray image streaming at 128Mbps (that is if they develop that technology in the future). So I am hoping one day that the Kaleidescape equipment well come down in price for mainstream consumers by allowing one to plug in their own $500 14TB USB 3.1 hard drive. And also in the years to come a free Kaleidescape streaming app for people that own 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players with 1Gbps Ethernet jacks. |

I seriously doubt Kaleidescape, and the movie studios themselves, will ever allow consumers to download these movies to their own infinitely more affordable hard drives. The whole point of a proprietary system is that it gives both the hardware manufacturer, Kaleidscape, and the studios, control over the content, the equipment, and the software necessary to view it. Proprietary systems also make piracy more difficult. If I had a Kaleidescape file, I could not watch it without their hardware and their software. Last edited by Vilya; 04-28-2019 at 01:41 AM. |

However if physical optical discs in 10+ years from now (CD, DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Blu-ray) are no longer made. I would want a system like Kaleidescape for the best in picture and sound quality. |

I can play a disc on any disc player made; the competition among different brands helps to make the players affordable. A Kaleidescape file has to be played with a Kaliedescape device; closed proprietary eco-systems like that of Kaleidescape keep the price high. Last edited by Vilya; 04-28-2019 at 01:47 AM. |
