I hope we get a more concrete release date for this one soon (still just says "Late 2019" on this site). I'm really looking forward to seeing this film!

With everything we've already announced this year, the films I'm most excited about working on haven't even been announced yet. Keep your ears and eyes open for more big announcements from Arbelos.

Just sayin'.

OK, back to the salt mine with me. Can't announce squat if I don't get it done!

I have a love/hate relationship with restoring animation.

It's always a struggle to balance keeping the "handmade" aesthetic and cleaning it up so that all the built-in "dirt" isn't overly distracting. And much like creating traditional animated films, it's a very, very manual process. Frame-by-frame...not a tremendous amount of help with any automated tools. It's exhausting, but in the end I just LOVE the end result. You can really appreciate how much work goes into traditional animation. You can literally see the hand made work on the screen. Very fulfilling.

If you're wondering, no we haven't announced any new animated restorations coming from Arbelos.

Yet.

Based on your comment about restoring animation and knowing that the other two parts of the Animerama Trilogy have already been released on blu in Europe, I take it we can safely say that those two titles (1001 Arabian Nights, Cleopatra) are NOT in the works...?

FELIDAE (1994) sure could use a BD release.

I recently had the opportunity to attend a screening of The Juniper Tree and the new restoration looks gorgeous! Cinematographer Randy Sellars was in attendance giving a Q&A and mentioned the blu-ray should be coming out this summer(fingers crossed!!). Hopefully Arbelos are able to get an on camera interview with Sellars as it was an absolute joy listening to him talk about a lot of the technical side of the making of the film, working with Bjork, hiring a young girl to play Jonas(the young boy in the film), and so much more insightful and interesting stories surrounding the film.

Finally watched my recently acquired BD set of THE GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 1 and 2. The first film was good, albeit a bit shaky (some very poor CGI and some pacing issues got on my nerves), but the second installment was a mind-blower. Overall an outstanding presentation of what are probably the best Indian crime films in recent years (rivaled by SATYA and AGNEEPATH as the best I've seen... but I'm new to Indian crime films).

If anyone can recommend more Indian gangster titles, I'm open to them!

Deewaar sounds promising. It's certainly one of the most praised Indian crime movies. There's even an English-subtitled BD? Incredible. Thanks!

I was recommend Gangs of Wasseypur by a friend, because he knows I love big epics and during the first half I was not enjoying it as much, and just thinking there’s another how ever many hours of this, but man, I was blown away by the second film! Especially the Faisal character!
