5.2 ?

I have heard people say two subs are always better than one and other say that you should just invest in a high end sub ($800+) . So I have decided to pick up a second one anyways because it’s only $100… Question is, how do I hook the second one up? ( sorry, I’m fairly new to the HT world and I’m still learning).

a Y cable, it's highly common in car audio for running multible amps it's the same thing. 1 male with 2 female wires coming off of it.

I have a 5.2 setup and I think it sounds pretty good. My main is the ML Dynamo and it has an LFE "out" on the back of it. So I simply run a sub cable from the ML to another powered sub's LFE "in" and it works like a daisy chain. I've heard of other people running a y adaptor that splits signal to two subs.

As far as quality goes, I think it all depends on placement and room dynamics. I have a huge room, so I definitely benefit from the dual subs.

Exactly; when I upgraded my 8" to a 12" JBL, I quickly added the 8 back into the mix and placed it behind my couch for some added butt rumbles, works quite well in my 7.2 system.

Ok, So Im looking and picking up the Y cord... but you listed two, which do I need? one is listed as 3.5 mm.... Should I pick up the sub cable from mono price too?

The first one, the second one is actual for a headphone jack, oops


Subwoofer cables

You can get one of these from monoprice. Other places offer slightly higher quality, like Bluejeanscable.com, but they are more expensive. I would suggest the RG6 cable for your subwoofer.

People who tell you to buy one subwoofer instead of two do not have any idea what they are talking about. If I had an $800 budget, I would buy two $400 subwoofers over one $800 subwoofer 100% of the time. Two subwoofers can easily outperorm one subwoofer. The optimun number of subwoofers in a home theater room is four. More than four will not give you additional benefit.

With one subwoofer, after careful placement, you may be able to get good bass response for one listening position. Other positions in the room may not get good bass response. While many people incorrectly assume that the reason for two subwoofers is to get louder bass sound, that is not the real reason. With two subwoofers, you have more flexibility with their placement and can get more even and smoother bass response across the room for all listening positions and a much wider sweet spot.
