Vudu are rumoured to be introducing new tech for their original streamed tv shows. This is exciting! Apparently, not only will you get regular ads, you can buy stuff that appears in the tv show itself! The tech is set to be revealed this coming week but rumours suggest this will take the form of pop-up bubbles!

Seems the future is exciting after all! What more could s film and tv lover want? Thank you Walmart and thank you Vudu!

Oh, and BBC, Youtube, and Vudu are all looking to push forward with interactive content. You are right Vilya, the future is veeeery exciting!

It certainly is; your rumor mill does nothing to change my optimistic outlook. Streamed video content is actually a very minuscule part of that exciting future. There's much more to life than streaming and, dare I say it, acquiring physical media even.

What Vudu and others may, or may not, experiment with causes me no concern. Viewers will decide what they like and what they do not. If streaming providers make changes that I dislike, I simply won't watch the content incorporating those changes. I have that power; I can decide how I spend my time.

Once again, the rumored (by you of all people) possibility of widely available interactive content in NO way means that traditional movies and TV shows will cease to be made. Every time that you imagine that something new is coming, you just have to kill off something that already exists, in this case TV shows and movies as we now know them.

I'm not buying into your fears. I remain enthusiastic for the future.

I have no doubts about my comment. I often make stylistic changes to my prose that I find to be more emphatic or expressive.

I'm still sipping on my first caffeinated beverage of the day; It's amazing that I am even coherent at this point.

I love the aroma of coffee, but I don't like the taste. I am having raspberry iced tea.

I DO love cherry pie, though.

I'll admit I bought my wife a criterion movie she loved on the criterion channel app and she was blown away by how much better it looked on disc.

I was too. I prefer disc just wish I had more space.

The thing is, a lot of this stuff is not rumour mill. It’s happening. All the evidence is there. I can’t get through a week without reading the term mobile-first for the entertainment industry. HBO want bite sized content on their new AT&T fronted HBO offerings. I said all along, mobile would be the focus there.

There is talk of topical nightly news/comedy shows getting the ‘’byte-sized’ treatment in the very near future and even Netflix fans are praising 30 minute episodes of series because they are easier to get through and did not have character development or backstory to get in the way! That was a actual comment on Twitter!

This is the future gen you guys put so much faith in.

Luke I said before, there is going to be a great divide of tv fans and mobile, split right down the middle. Us HT fans are going to be like slugs covered in salt.

Short form and rapid ‘byte size’ entertainment is going to be the focus while long form tv fans will be an afterthought. All the evidence is there.

I don't care if it is "happening." It is not a threat. Perhaps you should not read so much of this stuff if it only upsets you?

None of your post contains "evidence." An uncited random Twitter comment and an unspecified number of, and also uncited, Netflix user comments are what you call evidence?

An "actual" comment on Twitter is hardly a cause for an alarm. I read a comment from this guy that thinks vertical TVs might take off in a big way and that we will be taxed for binge watching and sitting on our bums too long.

30 minute time slots for TV episodes have been a staple on TV for over 70 years now. Nothing new here. They used to average 26 minutes per episode and now they average just 22 minutes, but that's due to more commercials being aired as more ads were steadily and slowly added over the years. None of this is the fault of millenials, your favorite scapegoats.

Ironically, 30 minute Netflix episodes is actually an INCREASE in episode length.

We have ALWAYS had short form video entertainment; it even predates the Nickelodeon theaters which were common from 1905-1915. Again, nothing new here, either. Long and short from content have always co-existed. They will continue to do so.

Even if bite size entertainment increases in popularity, that does not mean that traditional length TV shows and movies will cease to be offered and made. You are ever the eager grave digger, always ready to bury something.

My name isn't "Luke," either.

Maybe he is one of those people that we hear tell of that enjoys the benefits of both? I have heard rumor that many such people exist.

Maybe he talks more about the digital side of things because he feels that its merits are under represented in this thread and elsewhere?

You will do that for others and yourself, just not for my points.

You even went to great lengths to list many of my previous posts outside of this thread.

I don’t forget.

I was unaware that it was my responsibility to make your points for you.

As for referencing your past posts here and in other places, I did not go to "great lengths." It was quite easy, really.

Why? Because I don't forget (much), either.

If you want to question the sincerity of another forum member's preference for discs, you can do so by yourself. It might be easier, correct even, to just take their word for it.

You all but called me a traitor because I redeemed a very small number of the codes that came with my discs. I have a whopping 135 titles in my so called digital collection compared to how many titles that I have on disc? Take another look to the left there below my avatar for the answer. I have never even watched one of them. You even predicted that I would switch entirely to digital purchases within a year despite the fact that I have never made such a purchase- still more of your awesome predicting prowess in action. Would you like me to dig up that post of yours?

It is my opinion that the forum member in question is absolutely being insincere. There are pages to prove that theory imo.

By the way, I did question it myself. You chose to reply.

It is indeed easier to take someone’s word. It’s also inappropriate when that person has (in my opinion) continuously shown pro-digital tendencies. I don’t take the easy route. I take the instinctual one.

When did "instinctual" become a synonym for "pessimistic?"

Like when your "instincts" told you that I would convert to buying only digital within the year? Those same instincts?

If you are not one to take "the easy route," then why were you suggesting that I should help you to prove your point?

How contagious are those "pro-digital tendencies?" Is redeeming the digital code that came with a disc purchase one of the early danger signs, doctor?
