Studios should pay Sony so they can do their 5 star transfers.

No audio issues on my Sony 700.

IMO, this is Ridley’s greatest filmmaking achievement. It’s nice to have a war movie where they get the small details right especially with the language/terms (for the most part).

After a preorder many months ago the 4K steelbook just arrived... somehow over all these years I've missed this one.

Just watched it tonight. Wow! Amazing film and the Atmos put you right there! Was worth the wait!

Ugh. Ripped to NAS and no time to view tonight. Booo!

My disc was filthy and took quite the cleaning to get a bit-perfect rip. Stupid double-stacked crap.

At least put the UHD on the bottom. The BD will never see the light of day.

I just checked my local Target and there is no copies in my city. Only way is to order online. Do I trust that or take my chance and go and see for myself? There is a Target on my way to work I can stop by and check just to make sure.

Your speaker setup would play of huge factor too.
The DTS tracks are usually 4-6dB louder. You need to level match.

I agree. I can't take credit for the following observation, I read it in a review of the film:

The most amazing accomplishment of Black Hawk Down is that Ridley Scott manages to achieve two things at once that are COMPLETELY opposite.

He manages to maintain absolute crystal clarity for the audience about geography within a VERY confusing physical setting.

At the SAME TIME, he manages to convey with equal clarity, how overwhelmingly and bewilderingly lost the soldiers are within that world as they fight their way out. We absolutely FEEL their sense of being lost, but NEVER in a way that is confusing to watch.

A TITANIC accomplishment that only a few other directors in the history of the cinema would have attempted, and I'll even suggest that no others might have been able to achieve with this precision.

Truly his masterpiece.

No, the BD included is the original 2006 BD of the theatrical cut, only difference is they've printed new artwork on the disc itself to match the other discs in this set.

The 2nd BD includes all the extras from the 3-DVD set that weren't on the 2006 BD.

Only the 4K BD includes both cuts.

Its good to know that the UHD got a red carpet treatment but its sad to see Sony giving up including remastered BDs.

BDs are things of the past. It's UHD now, all TVs selling in video stores and Amazon and eBay are the majority in 4K. ...Front projectors too.

Heck, we can even buy 8K TVs.

Standard Blu-rays look more and more like DVD by the minute.
All that money invested in 1080p is looking more and more retro...like a polluted waste land.

Say Blu-rays from years ago...like Black Hawk Down, Alien, Aliens, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Unforgiven, The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Robocop, ...and a whole lot more.

New BD releases look good, but they come with a 4K disc, and Dolby Atmos, for only $5 more (average).

Even level matched I still feel the dts track comes out on top. Dont get wrong the Atmos track sounds very good but ill be listening to the dts from now though.

This is a very poor ill informed decision but fine as long the DTS track keeps you happy.

To clarify, the three discs are:

Disc 1 - 4k disc, including both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film, no extras

Disc 2 - the original 2006 BD, including only the theatrical cut of the film, extras are the audio commentaries and some featurettes

Disc 3 - brand new 2019 BD containing all the bonus features from the 2003 3-disc DVD set that were not already on the 2006 BD

The new set has both cuts in 4K, but only the theatrical in 1080p.

It is not poor ill informed decision; it is personal sound preference.
DTS is awesome. Atmos is awesome too. We pick the one we like the most.
There is no law in preference.
We marry the one we love, not the one others tell us to marry.

The site review is up and it sweeps the board in all categories. A 5 * release.

At least it doesn't have Dolby Atmos.
