* I would rather that they don't include the old Blu in the 4K package and discount the total price by $5-10 instead. That way everybody's happy. If they want to include the standard Blu or/and the 3D Blu, they can remaster them as well for improved picture and sound (Atmos). Then they can keep charging us $25-30 if it turns their mojo on. Alien 4K was/is priced to sell. Black Hawk Down 4K is priced to sell. |

Has anyone bring these issues to the studio so they can fix them. Would love to buy this but with all the issues people seem to be having I see no point in buying it. You think since it’s 2019 there wouldn’t be these kind of issues anymore.

You buy a 4K disc FOR THE 4k disk. I always give the BD away to friends that don't have 4K |

In Australia they often aren't even shipping the blu with the back catalog releases like Alien and BHD. I've already got the blu rays though so not that worried. |

Not necessarily. There have been a few UHD releases where the included BD is the only way to get the new master on BD.

Will probably pick this up, as I have never owned a copy on BD.
I have an issue with the way the end of the Battle of Mogadishu is portrayed, with the kids running alongside the military vehicles, when in reality, the marines were having to blast the hell out of these 12-14 year olds. The way one soldier put it "You could see when you took aim that these kids could barely hold their guns, yet alone aim them. But we still had to shoot to kill anyway, 'cos some of these kids could get off a lucky shot and kill one of my fellow marines". What is that shite at the end... An artistic statement or an attempt to censor the real tragedy of warfare. The loss of innocence. Either way, while I love Ridley Scott's films, there is something about those final scenes (as they make their way through the streets to the rendezvous point), that just doesn't ring true. And for me, it has always tainted the rest of the film. Perhaps with age comes temperance and I won't find it so astonishing that the truth appeared to be censored (to a degree), in those final scenes, and enjoy the rest of the film it's gritty portrayal. If sequences were bad apples, I shouldn't let that one scene/sequence ruin the whole damn bunch. I chose to use the apple metaphor approach to Star Wars: Episode 8 (the Casino planet was ridiculous), so I can take my new found virtue into watching Black Hawk Down. Thus, I can accept that the film ends the way it does, for whatever reason, and the truth is simply way darker than what was portrayed. ![]() |

No slipcase? I'm returning it!
No Atmos? No buy! Ugly cover art? No buy! No 13.4.27 audio mix to match my own personal audio system? No buy! Not remastered blu-ray... inside the 4k UHD box? No buy! Ooh. It has a slipcase, great cover art, but no disc inside... I'm keeping it! ![]() |

Add me to the list of people impressed by this one. Once I got a little bit in, I stuck the Blu-ray in another player to toggle back and forth to compare. This UHD is such a major improvement. Even though I don't watch BDs of movies I own on UHD, I was a little bummed the BD wasn't remastered. It felt like such an unfair comparison when the BD is in such rough shape. It practically looked like a DVD to me and the format can obviously offer so much better. Beads of sweat (which is basically covering everyone in this movie) and fabric textures were so detailed and natural looking. And the HDR seemed to make every firey blast and spark just pop.
And yeah - I hadn't seen this since the mid-2000s and was surprised to see Jaime Lanister and a Tom Hardy that looked to be a third the size of Bane in this. |
