Both this and Force of Evil are available direct from Olive's storefront. When in doubt regarding an Olive title, always check the company's site first. In almost all cases, retailers are just between stock if it's not available from them.

This. I got nervous a year or two ago when I learned they put out a horror anthology that I had missed, Tales That Witness Madness, and it had disappeared from all retailers but was still available on Olive's site. There were whispers of that going OOP too so I ordered it from Olive and a few months later it started to pop back up from other retailers for less than I paid direct. This could likely end up being the same situation. All companies have been having issues with pressing plants and hit with delays. If they run out of stock and don't have the foresight to put in an order ahead of time, it'll be awhile before it can be widely available again.

Did Criterion lose the rights for Tampopo? Crazy price on Amazon right now.

Criterion used to be really good about announcing their OOP titles. Not sure if that's still the case.

There have not been any OOP Criterion titles that haven't been reflected on their website to my knowledge..

Thanks for easing my mind on whether Tampopo is out of print (it's not), but doesn't explain why it's not readily available on other sites:

Most sites do not keep large amounts of stock on hand. There are a smaller number of root distribution hubs behind many of these online storefronts. This is likely between pressings, meaning that the root distribution hub is currently out of stock, hence all these websites are out of stock. Criterion always eventually represses while they retain the rights, unlike some other companies (Cohen, for example, seems to just not repress in some cases even if they hold the rights).

Got a notice from Sentai Filmworks that Children Who Chase Lost Voices is going OOP. The Blu-ray is currently on sale for $5 while supplies last at Sentai Filmworks and Right Stuf Anime's website as well as on sale at Amazon for $7.99.

I know that Criterion titles that are OOP are supposed to say OOP on their website.

But does anyone know the deal if the DVD of that title is available on the website and the blu ray is not? Is it still supposed to say that the blu ray is OOP on the website?

If the title is OOP, both the DVD and the BD go OOP at once. If something is just not available on the Criterion webstore, they are just also out of copies until they do a repress or switch to the single-disc version or something like that.

This happens over and over - it really needs to be bolded at the top of the first post or something. Olive Films releases do not stay in stock at Amazon for some reason. This title is still available at the Olive Films website.
