So I'm going through the marvel movies in anticipation for Avengers IW part 2. Haven't seen Age of Ultron since the first time in the theatre. Didn't really care for it then, although I thought it was a bit better than the first Avengers. Since I got a 3d TV and AoU along with it, figured it might be worth giving it a second shot.
I'm glad I did. I enjoyed it much more the second time and the 3d was kinda fun. It's not a good movie by any means. There's too many jumbled plot points all over the place, but at the same time at least makes it much more interesting than the more focused, but exceedingly boring first Avengers. Too many underdeveloped characters (the scarlet witch and quick silver; vision shoe-horned into the ending) and at the time seemingly pointless villains (Ulysses Klaue, Strucker). It's a real messy stew, but still a somewhat entertaining one. The CGI-fest action scenes aren't particularly memorable, with embarrassing slow-mo 'look-at-me' group shots at both the beginning and climax of the film. That said, I liked the party where they hung around together playing with Thor's hammer (wish it had more scenes like that, they actually felt like teammates) and I felt a bit of emotion when quicksilver died. The 3d wasn't flat, but it wasn't super memorable either. It was just enough to make the scenes a little more interesting to watch than in 2d. I guess this would be considered medium 3d? The movie was ok and the decent 3D made it better. |

It's definitely better than the first one, but it's not a patch on Infinity War.
Which action sequences did you like? For me, just that early fight alone in IW against Ebony Maw with all the interaction between Dr Strange, Iron man, and Bruce Banner I found more memorable than anything in AOU. |

Hmm, interesting. I'm not a big fan of CG in live action movies (it works in animation though). It all looks pretty fake to me, so I don't have much of an opinion on good vs bad CG (unless it's like really in your face BAD, like a-weird-morphing-lip-missing-it's-mustache bad).
IW inherently suffers from the same overstuffed problem as AOU, but I really liked how all the different characters interacted with each other, so for me that made the action scenes much more entertaining than in AOU, which I found lacking in personality. So you didn't like any of the action scenes in IW? Oh well, to each their own. |

Personally I love CG but I think it should reflect the budget and resources behind the movie in question and I think Marvel rush through their post production too much as they have so many movies on the go so the CG often suffers as a result.
Infinity War was just too many characters IMO, way too busy. I'm not a big fan of the team up movies although as I said, I did enjoy Age of Ultron. I much prefer the standalone stories and I really didn't like the cliffhanger ending of Infinity War (I knew it was coming but still). Despite so many movies, I just find that I do not care much about, nor like any of these characters really, so I'm just showing up for the action, fx and 3D. There's also slightly more petty reasons I didn't enjoy Infinity War like for example I really enjoyed the Amazing Spiderman movies and wanted a 3rd but instead they cancelled that for a new Spidey to join the MCU so I don't like the new Spidey and the fact that he's in the MCu as it has stopped me from getting my 3rd ASM movie lol. |

Haha, thanks for the response! Wow, you're the first person to tell me you liked the Amazing Spiderman movies and wanted a third one. None of my friends liked them, which is too bad, because the first Amazing Spiderman is my favourite spidey origin film. I feel they captured Peter Parker's melancholy well, and I loved his relationship with Gwen Stacey. They also handled
[Show spoiler] pretty well, and it really felt like the comics. That said I was majorly disappointed with ASM2, I mean talk about way too many characters and being way too busy with plot setup! Harry Osborn is a great character and not only is he just introduced, but they ram him straight through the whole goblin storyline with no build up. Then there's the go nowhere Electro, Rhino, and sinister Six setups. And while cliff hanger endings are not everyone's cup of tea (I didn't mind it in IW), ending it with [Show spoiler] and oh, a super villain appears, gotta be Spiderman again for no reason other than can't end the movie without the title character. Ugh, they went from the best Spidey flick to the worst (repeating the worst aspects of Tobey 3 and literally making it worse). While Holland's Spidey isn't the best, so far he's been pretty good, so I'm okay with that. Sorry about the long rant, but Spider-man is one of my all-time favourite characters. Back to AOU, while I was glad to rewatch AOU again in 3d to gain some new appreciation and enjoyment, I will definitely not be adding ASM2 3d to my library. To be honest Amazing Spiderman 2 is one of my favourite superhero/ comic book movies, I absolutely love it so I was more than happy with everything in the movie and how it was handled, that's why I was so desperate for a third one, but oh well. I don't read comic books so just take the movies on face value and that one certainly hit all the right notes for me. Iron Man 3 is pretty much my favourite comic book movie but I'd put ASM 2 in second place at least. Before ASM I wasn't that fussed about Spidey as a character and I'm definitely not into Tom Holland as Spidey or his role in the MCU and I hate the mentor stuff with Tony Stark.
ASM 2 also has absolutely excellent 3D but then again so does Homecoming and whilst I'm not a big fan of the movie, I do appreciate the wonderful 3D conversion. |

Hi Henrecker,
Always a good idea to put major plot reveals in spoilers (it's the emoji with the white sash across it's eyes - put one at either side of the writing that needs to be hidden). I've seen ASM2 so no issues here, but some people may not have seen it yet. You are talking about it in a different movie's thread, so it would be unexpected. |

I enjoyed much of Amazing Spiderman 2 but parts of it just make you think 'who the hell signs off on this shit?'
There's lots of moments like that, but Jamie Foxx's acting, the uncomfortable fact he's kind of playing a borderline autistic character, the cartoonish villainy of his big meany boss making him fix a hissing electrical cable rather than go home on his birthday... and don't even get me started on Electro's theme... how does someone like Hans Zimmer go from making the Inception theme to making a bottom of the barrel 'dubstep' song (speaking as a huge dubstep nerd) where the character's thoughts and motivations are sung in comically awful, cringeworthy raspy background voices, which is the kind of thing only a 12 year old thinks is deep and or/not absolutely terrible? It's a fun film overall, but man is it flawed. It's like they made a great Spidey movie then had it remixed by a child. |

I didn't even remember that Hans Zimmer did the score. Although I'm a big fan, I don't feel that his superhero music are his best work. I mean Inception is great, and even Pearl Harbour (the movie is terrible) has an amazing soundtrack, but his superhero stuff is just ok.
I've always been kinda sad that Spidey never got an epic theme (outside of his cheesy, but fun '67 cartoon theme song) the way Superman (Williams) and Batman (Elfman) did. |

Hey guys, I'm sure this topic has been discussed at some point, surely I can't be the only person with this issue. It's been forever since i watched the Age of Ultron bluray. The family decided to watch it last night, and during the movie, I noticed that the sound and talk during the movie would sometimes get very low, and all of a sudden get louder. It happened multiple times, but it was most noticeable during the scene when Nick Fury was inside Hawkeye's house.
I also noticed that when Cap is fighting Ultron on top of the 18 wheeler, and he almost falls off the front of the truck, there's no sound when he bumps into the windshield and hood. Have these issues occured with anybody else? I'm wondering if I have a defective disc, or if the audio was messed up for this movie. I'm not sure if I should rebuy another disc and hope it's fine, or wait and buy the 4k version. Any insight into this issue would be appreciated. |

You may want to test the system with an audio setup disc for proper volume levels for each speaker.. |

Endgame is a great Avengers movie but doesn't break my MCU top 5. Preferred Infinity War. It has a tighter narrative, a more compelling villain and stronger themes. I didn't like Age of Ultron at all. A jokey villain, given the end of the stakes? I'm out.

Just been rewatching this in 3D. Such a fun movie and the 3D is very nice. This was before Marvel fully embraced stronger 3D so it's nowhere near as impressive as the 3D in Infinity War and Endgame but nevertheless it's really well done.

The 3D isn't great, average at best. I remember reading something about Joss not wanting to consider 3D so much in this movie? And I think it shows.
