New Blu-ray is better overall than UHD? Perhaps I'll just watch the 4K downscaled to 1080p instead of rebuying.

I will wait for caps, don't trust the reviewer at all...

If Paramount made a new transfer for the BD it means that the UHD was defective and should be replaced

But I don't think they made a new transfer at all

double lol, the UHD is processed to buggery but it's *still* showing loads more detail in the top shot, the second is what it is owing to the processing done to such a CG-heavy shot in the 4K master itself. But although the new BD is superficially more colourful than the UHD (vagaries of SDR conversion aside) it's also been sharpened a tad, there's now some mild ringing around contrasting edges. Better than the UHD? Time for some new specs Martin...

"Paramount has released a newly remastered 25th anniversary Blu-ray edition of the magical 1994 multi-Oscar-winning film 'Forrest Gump.' The studio most recently released the film on a disastrous UHD. That release included a new Dolby Atmos soundtrack, which has been carried over here, replacing the 2009 Blu-ray's DTS-HD MA 5.1 track. Both that UHD and this Blu-ray contain the same collection of extras from the 2009 disc. This is basically a hybrid disc of new video, semi-new audio, and vintage extras. Considering the terrible UHD picture quality and the generally good-mostly-great PQ here, this is currently the definitive home video version of the film."

Is the consensus that I should keep the 4K 25th Anniversary Edition (which I haven’t opened yet) or return it and buy the 25th Anv Blu-Ray which costs half as much?

Well, for me he is right because last saturday finally watched and compared the UHD 4K BD 2018 blu-ray, the 2009 sapphire series blu-ray and the new 2019 remastered blu-ray and the clear winner for me was the new 25th Anniversary remastered blu-ray

The 1080p Blu Ray is the closest you will get to how it originally looked in Theatres.

The 4K Edition is not it at all. This 4K is equivalent to an upscaled Predator Blu-Ray on 4K fiasco, and people defend it on here LOL!

This was a Stereo w/rear Surround film. Buy it for Atmos someone here said LOL! Nope. Not a chance. To hear that 1 piano theme in Atmos? get real it sounds fine in Mono or Stereo. Buy this to look at 4K DNR DOUBLE LAYER BONUS GRAIN. YES! End of STORY.

I would think Atmos ruins this simple theme...and tons of the movie is Tom Hanks narrating and dialoging in the Center Speaker. Putting it in 22+ Speakers is dumb imho.
