Which Poltergeist movie is your favorite?

The first is my favorite. The second is entertaining but not really necessary. The third is okay but even more unnecessary, although it does have some great practical effects involving mirrors that I still find impressive. Never even bothered with the remake.

The first one is easily the best I really enjoyed the remake a lot. The first sequel is good however the third film sucks.

Poltergeist II: The Other Side= a step down, but a solid sequel.
Poltergeist III= No thanks.
Poltergeist 2015= Obviously not on the original's level, but it's a decent little spookshow.... kinda unfairly hated.

Yes, it's clear that the 1982 original is the best of the bunch by far, but there's one very important thing that Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986) adds to the mix that was missing from the original film. Julian Beck as Reverend Henry Kane. Beck is the crown jewel of Poltergeist II. Had it not been for him, the film would have been just another mediocre horror flick and not fondly remembered as it is now. The guy (Nathan Davis) that plays Kane in Poltergeist III (1988) is awful - nowhere near the level of Julian Beck's excellence.

You're also right about the Jaws films. Jaws (1975) and Jaws 2 (1978) are both outstanding, while Jaws 3 (1983) and Jaws 4: The Revenge (1987) are both cinematic turds.
