Netflix is really good at burying their acquisitions, but this... this was definitely not an "under the radar" release.

I was referring to its mainstream debut/reception. Despite the buildup Netflix gave it, few film buffs seem to have seen it. At least, that's been my experience online. Any hype for it died down really fast. (I'm also disappointed that it apparently wasn't eligible for Academy Award nomination, which it most certainly deserved in several categories.)

But yes, it certainly made a splash in Venice and on the art-house circuit for a short time.

If you don't like Digipacks, buy some extra Scanavo cases, either from the Criterion store (five for $12 plus shipping. Comes out to $18.95 to ship to me, to give you an idea), or Casetopia. The 14 mm is what you want for single discs. The cost per case is 88 cents (up to 100, then the price per unit starts to drop in bulk). They have a $5 minimum; 6 cases with priority shipping is $15.68. Or, maybe you can do better on Ebay (Casetopia also has a store there).

Then, go to a site that does custom blu-ray covers like customanicas.org (where I go), and for a few bucks, you can get covers that will fit the Scanavo cases. Voila, now you have your movies in Scanavo cases, and you can either sell or give away the Digi cases, or hold onto them for when the edition goes out of print, and sell the packaging at an exorbitant price.

I did this for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It wasn't a Digi, obviously, but I wanted it in a clear case like all my other Criterion issues (of the non Digi variety). The standard blu-ray cover didn't fit a Scanavo, so I found someone that designed one for the Scanavo. For a few bucks, they printed out the cover on the same paper used by Criterion, popped it in a new Scanavo, and sent it to me.

I don't know why Roman Holiday hasn't been issued on blu-ray. Every so often I'll check for rumors but it's always quiet.
