Do you only upgrade for your favorite movies or do you upgrade all your Blu-Ray films that come to 4K? I finally bought my first two 4K movies Cliffhanger & Die Hard since I only have them on DVD. If I owned them on Blu-Ray already I don’t think I would have upgraded though. For me personally it’s DVD to 4K upgrade, but if I own it on Blu-Ray I’ll just stick with the Blu-Ray with the exception of if there’s a great deal or if the transfer on the Blu-Ray isn’t that good.

Two conditions:
1. It's a film I intend to watch over and over again in the future. 2. Improved image quality. |

There are three important factors:
-quality of the upgrade -price -appealing special edition/alternative art/digibook extras/steelbook packaging with much less of an emphasis placed on the 3rd component. If things are too expensive for the increased value they provide, or if the PQ isn't great then priority for buying that title goes to the bottom of the list. There are endless shows and movies to buy. |

Originally I decided I would just purchase new films and about a dozen older films (Just my favorites) I would upgrade from Blu-ray to 4K.....after watching a half dozen films in 4K, I immediately began replacing every film I own where a 4K replacement is available. Right now I'm at 100% switched over to 4K except where a title is not yet available. My collection is 60% 4K, 40% BLU-RAY, and I own Castle and SG1 on DVD along with Farscape Peacekeeper wars. I long desperately to not own any DVD's ... No reason Castle and Farscape shouldn't have been HD

I upgrade every blu ray I own. But, I will not spend more than $14.99 for an upgrade. So, I have no problem waiting for sales.

Since no one has mentioned mine, here is my thoughts on Upgrading from Blu-ray to UHD:
1. If it is an older Blu-ray that didn't come with a Digital copy for iTunes or Vudu. 2. If it is a favorite film of mine. (I will buy Aliens, Tombstone, Ironman, Jaws, Episode 4, Wall-E, and V for Vendetta on any new format) 3. It is on sale. I don't have an HDR UHD TV, so that doesn't come into play yet, but the digital copy is important to me. All my movies are in binders until my littles are older and it is much easier to watch a 4K digital copy after the first time when I watch it on disk. |

Same here. If your movie library is large enough and you mix it up on movie nights, hell, I don't see a need to watch any single movie 6 times in a two year span.
For me it has to be a movie I enjoy enough and know will get multiple views over the years to come while of course having superior PQ and AQ to the BD. In the end, that means I will NOT be upgrading all my Blu Rays because I just don't love some titles enough to step up, superior UHD release or not...and really, living with the BD will suffice for those few movies - it's not like those BD's are horrible looking/sounding any way (an example might be a guilty pleasure like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre TWO" lol). |
