Noticed Amazon just loaded Tyburn's 'The Ghoul' (1975). Was hoping for a new HD scan foreshadowing a/the Bu ray release. No such luck, just an old standard def scan (at best) and the incorrect academy aspect ratio. Perhaps it's one of those 'public domain-ers'...

Knowing it's coming from Indicator is presumably killing any buzz of the French release. Most of us who would be buying it from France are now just waiting.

Not "officially" but it's been confirmed by the label direct to customers - including posters here - that Revenge is one of the titles upcoming, along with Taste Of Fear and These Are The Damned, while Two Faces Of Dr. Jekyll was the latest picture clue. SO it's presumed - with a high degree of certainty - those 4 will be the lineup for the fourth Hammer box.

Great news for those not Region-A capable - Lust for a Vampire coming from StudioCanal in August!

Lust for a Vampire Blu-ray

I imagine sharing costs with Scream on the restoration might have paved the way for this.

I've always had a strange love for this lesbian vampire in a girls' dormitory movie...

I see it states, new high definition master, two discs & a book. I hope this is the business, not that I'd order it, but I'd be optimistic about a forthcoming Indicator release.

That may not be up to Scream. It's complicated, but I'll have a go.

In the US, StudioCanal only hold the rights to 9 Hammer films: Lust for a Vampire, and the 8 SC released over here in their last batch. Scream appear to have the rights to this whole package of films for release in the US.

Now here's what it gets complex. In the US, Hammer themselves own the rights to about 20-25 of their films. Now these are mostly films with StudioCanal over here, but they also include a number of the films with Icon in the UK, so X: The Unknown, Quatermass II, and The Abominable Snowman. Scream have obviously acquired most of these films, if not the whole package.

As such, the potential for crossover with StudioCanal over here might be difficult. For while Scream have released, or likely will release, a number of films that are with StudioCanal in the UK and as yet unreleased on Blu - The Lost Continent, Vengeance of She, The Viking Queen - it is unknown whether StudioCanal would have access to any potential restorations for UK release, given that these titles would not have been licenced from them for the US. Certainly, releasing just one Hammer title is quite a departure from their previous strategy.

The Lost Continent restoration was mentioned as a major release in their very first press release about their plans to release Hammer film on Blu all those years ago, so it probably came down to lack of dealer interest that it got quietly forgotten.

Maybe I'm imagining it but I seem to recall something about SC stating that the cost to sales ratio was such that they were unlikely to release any more of the Hammer titles that they have the rights to here?

It might explain some deal with Hammer/Scream that they've managed as a one off and hence the singular release instead of I think it was batches of three before ?

I lose interest in Hammer around 1965, but I do have a soft spot for The Lost Continent. I'd love to buy a good looking Blu-ray, right now I have my Anchor Bay DVD.

YES!!! That's the Carmilla trilogy sorted. Does this mean more output from StudioCanal?

Exactly!

I am not Region A capable, so this news of an upcoming release from StudioCanal is most certainly welcome.

Might be an idea to read my post above. To be blunt, we don't know. I don't think it's coincidence that this is coming out just a few weeks after Scream Factory's release in the US. As has been speculated, this may be something of an exception given the circumstances.

More likely an element issue.
When the DVD came out, it was ready to press when Bill Lustig was informed he had the shorter US edit, with some vaguely racy material omitted. He found a 35 mm print source ( not very pretty ) and cobbled the missing scenes into their master.

Getting the full film in HD from 1 source might be tricky.
