Yes, because we have pretty good 35mm versions floating around.
The 4K is closer to the theatrical timing, than any other home release.

This doesn't make any sense at all! Why buy the individual releases, if you're going to sell them shortly thereafter in the first place.

I kind of forget the various versions of that exchange. I believe on the old flipper DVD the WS side was different than the pan/scan
The version on the 4:3 flipper DVD is a mistake. If you watch the footage of her "enjoying it" closely, it's just the beginning of the shot where she begins talking to him. It's been a common misconception for years that it's an alternate take, but it's just accidentally repeated footage.

I never thought, watching a movie can turn into a major task. Wouldn't it be much easier and less work, if you just watch the movie the way it is on the disc?

Ive done this with Atmos tracks that are absent on 3D editions.

As an aside, I love Atmos audio mixes. I like to also have the original audio mix in HD or PCM as an option. Not thrilled when films get all new sound effects redone much like Terminator and now 1989’s Batman.

WB could have easily included the DTS HD 5.1 mix of Batman or for any other catalog title, they could include original stereo / Mono tracks i PCM / HD format. They are just lazy, or leaving the window open for yet another release.

Why not pull the audio from a previous release you enjoy and mux it with the new remaster?

Attention Barnes & Noble members:

The September 4K boxset is available for pre-order at BN for $89.99. There are several 20% off coupons floating around this weekend and they will work on this if your cashier is cool and manually overrides the system. Add on the standard 10% off for members and the total comes to $64.79 for the boxset or about $16.20 per film before tax. Codes won't go for as much in September but I'm still happy to be locked into a pretty good price.

"Holy YMMV, Batman!!" seems like an appropriate response.

It's actually option C - they don't know nor care enough to do so.

Closer than previously would kind of have to be a given, still my other point stands, even if the colors were broadly correct when squinting, the method to get there was flawed.

Jeez man the 5.1 IS on it. Yes I know it's "lossy" but do you really think you need to jump through hoops and sync up your old Blu-Ray just because the same mix lights up in DTS MA? The SUPERMAN UHD had the restored 70mm mix in 5.1 Dolby Digital and despite the fact it was "lossy" it also sounded great. Do you really not listen to that track just because it isn't in DTS MA?

EDIT - this 5.1 isn't the old 5.1 after all. See below comment for clarification

I think Mr. Harris is just acknowledging that most of these films were shot at night or on stages with high-speed (400 or 500 ASA) color negative film that had a resolving power of around 100 lines per millimeter. So naturally, being 1.85:1 productions, that means a projection aperture of 20.96mm x 11.33mm, so that's around 2096x1133 digital equivalent. 2K Roughly.

Any daylight (100 ASA) stuff would be around 160 lines/mm, so about 3.3K.

Of course, nothing wrong with oversampling what's there. Might as well.

If I wanted to hear DVD quality audio I would play a DVD

Absolutely but still worth a shot. I first tried getting a Target to honor the Cartwheel discount that had been applied to my order of the individual releases but wouldn't go through with no success before giving BN a go. The coupons they send me every month or so should have some use and I'm just thankful that my local BN makes my membership worthwhile for something other than Criterion purchases.

There is no way I would go through all of that rigmarole, practically redoing the soundtrack, syncing the audio and so forth to watch a movie. Whatever floats your boat.

Not to mention that this is a new transfer so there may be a difference in timing and frames. It's really not worth it

So.....let me get this straight. The new 4K releases only contain the new revisionist audio tracks with the newly changed sound effects? There's no audio track with the original sfx?
