God forbid the artist gets his art presented the way he intends it!

I’m ready for these. What a great year for the format. It’s gone by so fast, already looking towards fall.

He got to do that with the theatrical release and the blu-ray home video presumably. Those works/intention are archived with the studio. With UHD it's time to play to the strength of the spec like, oh, idk, every other artist gets on board with?

Yeesh. Respecting the art isn’t about having a note on record somewhere in a file; it’s about people seeing it correctly when they watch it.

Not necessarily. This is a question of the guy who shot the movie being able to make his own choices about it. Whether or not anyone considers HDR revisionist is beside the point. Roger Deakins shot and timed this movie and should get to decide how it’s presented. The end.

I think most would like Skyfall to look like Skyfall. I personally think HDR will enhance things further.

Well, you literally can’t get more Skyfall than exactly how Skyfall looks... and it’s not an HDR look.

I never said that; I’m just not going to cheer the idea of Deakins not getting to present it how he wants.

I think most would agree with that sentiment. I know I would. Like I said, it would enhance things further.

It’s not enhancement if it’s going in the opposite direction of what the artist wants.

HDR to me is there to provide the wider color gamut which allows UHD to get as close as possible to the original visual intent of the film makers.

Okay so don’t buy it then?

I’m not sure what we’re discussing then if it’s not about revisionist HDR.

Somebody said, joking or not, that they wanted Deakins kept away from it, so it could be graded in HDR less subtly. I disagree with that sentiment. That’s all I’m talking about; I don’t know about you.
