I currently have my center (which has a powered sub on the top of the speaker) on that ledge under my TV stand. The bass is firing directly upwards, into the panel that supports the TV, with maybe a half an inch of clearance (take a look at the first picture in my gallery). Should I unscrew that ledge and drop the center to the floor to allow more bass response? Or does half an inch versus 6 inches not make that much difference?

I have considered that very move, but I am living in an apartment at the moment and plan on buying a house later this year. So I can't (won't) mount at the moment. But you are correct, that would be the best possible solution.

I would probably remove the shelf... drop the center speaker to the floor, and angle it up (put something about an inch thick or so, under the front of it)
I would certainly make sure the t.v. stand is still sturdy after removing that shelf though! It may "twist" more if that shelf is removed ![]() Depending on when you're getting a new home, you may want to just deal with it "as is" rather than go through the motions for a marginal improvement..... Looks nice though... |

im not quite sure if the tv stand would be 'stable' if ever you do remove the shelving unit. id be a little hesitant to do so, considering the cost you've placed in all three components.
id just wait it out instead, and work with what we currently have for the meantime. what you can also do is consider creating a shelf that you can DIY above your telly and angle it towards your listening area. |
