That's a great start, Stacey. If you are looking at getting Trinnov Altitude owners as potential buyers of your supplemental audio test disc, you might want to query the owners in the AVS Forum's Trinnov thread to see if it's worth adding an 11.1 or greater base layer option with an 8 and 10 overhead speaker selection, if possible.

When the DTS: X codec is selected, you probably want the 9.1 base layer and 6 or greater overhead choices to grey out.

I have not heard enough about DTS: X Pro to render an opinion or whether regular DTS: X will be folded into that codec structure.

I am actually looking at the Trinnov, Datasat and Stormaudio as possible replacements for my home cinema. I have a Meridian 861 and I am limited to 7.1.

Thank you for the feedback and recommendations.

Smile This is a wonderful explanation of how the Dolby Vision grading process works

So, much as progress in camera equipment seems to be at least decelerating toward a point of complete adequacy for current applications, there are still huge demands on display technology, and perhaps some fundamental limits on what can really be achieved. Perhaps that’s a good thing for some people, because it means that intelligent processing systems like Dolby’s Vision remain necessary in a way they might not if every HDR display in every lounge on the planet was trivially able to achieve exactly the same performance.

Just dove into OLED (Sony A8F) coming from FALD (Vizio 2018 P series) and the difference is striking!

Really glad I made the jump. OLED is so much better. I am noticing things I never noticed before in the image. Subtle details that suck you into the experience more. And the blacks are incredible.

Makes you wonder why you waited so long to make the jump. It really feels like UHD HDR was meant to be seen this way.

So you meant to say the A8F is a better TV than the Vizio P?

Just be careful what you watch to avoid screen burn-in. Avoid bright red and yellow static pictures/logos like the plague.

Yup. Be very careful for the first 100 hours. But Sony and Pana OLED are less prone to burn in than LG. I don’t know why.

I've read up on burn in. Seems you need something static for dozens if not hundreds of hours before burn in. At least from what I've read.

I only use it for movies so it's not an issue.

It's not length of time, it's if it's the same static image over and over again. Cumulative rather than length of time. So mix up your content.

Tomkins describes consumer displays as “WOLEDs,” referring to the use of a white-emitting subpixel to boost peak brightness and which as a result “don't have a great colour volume in the highlights. When people start do to try to hit Rec. 2020 you'll get metamerism where different people see things differently.”

and since that ^, the latest on trying to correct for metamerism - https://www.researchgate.net/publica...ver_Metamerism

P.S.
And as discussed in 2014, as to correctly pronouncing the word in case one ask questions at conferences, etc. –

And for what the concept means to those readers who may be unfamiliar with it, in a nutshell, metamerism is due to differences in the spectral power distribution of displays combined with the fact that different people possess different color matching functions in the way they see colors which is being exacerbated by the fairly recent development of displays with narrow spectrums to achieve the wider aspirational gamut of BT. 2020

Costco is starting to sell Sony 4K TVs. Basically the 850 model but I was surprised to see the 65XBR-65A8F on sale also.

Glad to see Sony back at Costco. Maybe the Sony OLED will get price competitive with the LG’s. Sony could probably need to move more units to stay in the display market.

Costco buys in bulk, and usually not the latest Models. The buyers do look for quality items, and Sony UHD TV's have been climbing the latter to the top.

The people with two videophile eyes usually buy Sony OLED displays in the USA.
In Canada they buy Sony OLED and also Panasonic OLED.

Everyone else buy Vizio TVs, Samsung TVs, TCL TVs, Sharp TVs, Zenith TVs, Toshiba TVs, Gramophone TVs, RCA Victor TVs, Casio TVs, Magnavox TVs and LG TVs.

;-)

* I'm cheap I went for LG on sale. ...Looks decent.
