It's slightly strange for me to entertain arguments about Keaton not being good as, or "right for", Batman, as I grew up on the Tim Burton movies - so he simply IS Batman for me. Likewise, it's hard for me to separate Burton's look & style from Batman - from my POV they're inseparable. It's why Batman without Danny Elfman's theme never feels truly like Batman to me.
None of which is to say that I don't enjoy the heck out of Nolan's films. They're just not where my mind goes when I think "Batman". Last edited by Aragorn the Elfstone; 06-07-2019 at 06:46 AM. |

I don't get hung up on who's the best movie Batman in the same way I don't get hung up on the best James Bond. They all bring something unique to the same character and you just end up arguing preference.
I will say though, if the biggest criticism I see is that at 5'9", Michael Keaton is too short to play Batman, then I think his unassuming performance as Bruce Wayne and his cool and collected while intimidating performance as Batman has held up. (He doesn't raise his voice and growl because he doesn't need to) ![]() Gotham did have a very... gothic look to it in Begins, but I agree, Gotham looked very bland when that visual design was abandoned in favour of shooting in a more grounded-looking Chicago. And Elfman's score will never not fvckin' own. |

Yeah ya did. In your previous post. See, it's right here.
When doing such a copious amount of shitposting, it must be tricky to keep track of what you've declared or haven't declared as 'fact'. That's the real challenge though, isn't it? |

No, but at least the Narrows looked properly grimy and run down, it gives the city a bit of character in Begins that is sorely missing from TDK and TDKR, the latter is a hilarious hodgepodge of famed cities like LA, NY, Chicago and, um, Croydon.

I sucked it up last night and watched the new transfer for the first time at home with the new sound effects. This is a movie I've watched more than any other, and I am still extremely satisfied with the job they did on the transfer, but I'm not sure I can watch it again with the new sound effects. The cyan push is being heavily exaggerated by people based on bad screenshot comparisons.
The whole time I was concentrating on trying to hear the old effects buried into the background. |

Batman(89) Wiki: Furst and the art department deliberately mixed clashing architectural styles to "make Gotham City the ugliest and bleakest metropolis imaginable".[45] Furst continued, "[W]e imagined what New York City might have become without a planning commission. A city run by crime, with a riot of architectural styles. An essay in ugliness. As if hell erupted through the pavement and kept on going".[46] The 1985 film Brazil by Terry Gilliam was also a notable influence upon the film's production design, as both Burton and Furst studied it as a reference. Amazing result, but would we want a copy or a unique vision for the reboot? |

Since a boxset is coming out in September a price drop on the individual releases is unlikely until sometime after the boxset is released.

Having not seen this movie for so many years, I was surprised by how murderous Batman is. I don't really have a problem with it, since it's an interpretation/adaptation and they can do whatever they want, but it was kind of amusing to see him blow people up and drop them to their deaths.
I've always found Joker killing Thomas and Martha Wayne kind of lame. It's so obvious that Hollywood WOULD do something like that. Anyway, it's nice to finally have these alongside the animated series. Looking forward to Returns tonight. ![]() |

Wasn’t that the reason Vicki keeps ditching her heels? They could have had Kim Bassinger wear some other type of shoes so she didn’t have to end up being taller than Batman.

I was saying two wrongs don't make a right. In other words just because the old BD image is not as sharp as the 4K that doesn't mean it's worse. That's all people like you care about: if the 4K image shows a higher level of details then what came before is worthless. That's the reason why I hate reviews. For the clueless this is the only thing that matters, if the new format looks better than the old ones. I find odd that you criticize the old BD while refusing to admit the 4K has this horrible blue tone in it, not to mention the new audio mix. I argued the old BD it's better in terms of how faithful to the source material is. For me this represents 90% of the value of any release. Failing to accomplish that it's like putting a dubbing instead of the original language or changing the OAR And then trying to pass this as the "ultimate" version. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I've seen fans do a much better job than all these companies. The best example that comes to mind is from Dracula (1979). While all home video releases are garbage, someone managed to create a much better version, of the original theatrical color timing. In terms of how close to the original, the old BD of Batman is clearly better. That doesn't mean it triumphs in every other aspect. ![]() If this movie had been released in 16K I would still criticize and argue the old 1080p release is better because it wasn't darkened or had a blue tint inserted on purpose. I am still waiting for any proof this 4K is what the movie always looked like. This is what Crapner does: [Show spoiler] I'll never understand why this need to destroy a movie with awful blue/green color grading. Every studio has some random dude employed who's only purpose is to make movies look like shit? Crapner needs to fire these people ASAP. If you saw The Matrix in 1999 at the cinema it didn't have the green tint. If you saw it on DVD (1st release), it didn't have the green tint. The green tint was added to the film with the Blu-ray to make it look more like the shitty sequels. The original Matrix deserves to be seen as it originally was - with more natural-looking color. The reason might actually be all the people calibratring their TVs wrong, setting them on cold temperature colors and enabling all these additional filters who seemingly make all color pop, bigger contrast and super brightness when in reality they just destroy the image. |
