So I sprung for an OLED yesterday (Sony A8F) and rewated scenes from this. Although I still think it's an ugly movie, I have a higher opinion of the transfer. Really great resolution and fine detail.
OLED rocks. |

This movie was made for OLED with the darker scenes and the blacks. The scene where Joker first appears in the shadows. I remember on the VHS and other viewings seperate from the 4k, you could barley make out Joker and his face before the reveal. That scene on this is amazing now as it is pitch black until he hits the light!! yes!

Then I got the blu-rays last year. It was a revelation. They look so good. It's the biggest "wow" blu-ray I own compared to how I remember watching it. Despite the show being silly, Batman does far more detective work than he does in any other on-screen version. |

I also grew up on West. Still love that series. But when I think Batman, I think of Keaton.

He managed to successfully anchor a movie that features a ridiculously horny Nicole Kidman (whose sole purpose is to breathe heavily and try boink him with his bat-pants still on), Jim Carrey being the most Jim Carrey he can be and Tommy Lee Jones, well, apparently the only direction he was given by Joel Schumacher was "More, Tommy! Mooooore!!!!!!" |

Enjoy them all. Nolan and Burton, they each have their own merits. I grew up watching Keaton as Batman and he was my favorite; was pissed when he didn't return in Forever. After Batman and Robin I lost all hope until 2005 when Nolan brought Batman back and I was impressed. I honestly thought the Batman franchise was dead and would remain for quite some time. Christian Bale I thought did a fantastic job as Bruce Wayne. For me, Keaton and Bale each bring something different to the character and both I still enjoy immensely when I watch all of the films. Now with the Bale films, I can't really pick a favorite of the two but they are definitely at the head of the pack (Kilmer, Clooney and Affleck sadly don't compare IMO). Debate can go on and on but that's what's fun about having choice when it comes to the love of film

Just watched the 4K digital of the 89 movie and it looks great pretty damn good to me.
The story isn’t fleshed out the best, and the movie could use a bit more action, but it’s still a really good movie to me. Especially for the reasons I laid out the other day. Something else.... [Show spoiler]

watched it last night and thought it looked very good on my OLED E8.The sound had me scratching my head. I no longer have a surround set up so I was listening directly through the tv's speakers. The E8 is ATMOS capable and usually does a nice job, however the Atmos track seemed a bit soft and low so I switched to the Dolby Digital. Here it sounded better but very bright and maybe too clean.Sound effects dominated over the score and dialogue was super clear but too clear.By that I mean it sounded like all background noise was removed and it sounded like it was recorded in an empty studio.Echkhart's voice, always raspy and mumbly sounded "phony", like someone re dubbing the dialogue. When Vale, Knox, and Wayne are alone in the room with all the ancient armor, they sounded like they were on a stage with no audience, just weird. So besides the replacing of the gunshots, which I thought was ok, the remixing of the soundtrack seems all wrong.Best it's looked, pretty much so, best it's sounded, not even close.

There a ton of issues with the mix people are missing as they are hung up totally on the replaced audio.
