I was thinking the comment meant more in terms of quantity and not the quality of the titles. They normally release 5-7 films a month, but if they released 1-2, maybe that what they meant in terms of light.

October is probably the most popular month for horror in terms of sales. I would think they would release something to top their Creepshow release from last year. That thing sold like crazy. I would imagine whatever title they release in October will be a big title.

Dawn of the Dead is wishful thinking, but a man can hope.

'Light' was indeed referring to quantity. By contrast, they said November 'will not be', which suggests that a good number of the titles they announce at SDCC will go up for pre-order straight away (presumably they'll be releasing 7-8 titles that month, though admittedly not all may be announced at SDCC, they might hold back a couple like last year).

Who has a feeling we might get Fright Night 2 at the comic con as an announcement or for Halloween?

It's not gonna happen with those legal matters (which don't look like they're gonna be resolved any time soon).

What do you think of Last House on The Left and Hills Have Eyes and their remakes? and Elm Street is still Craven's best.

While I'd love to replace my Spanish bootleg with a nice CE (or just one I don't need to turn subtitles off for), as others have mentioned with the various rights issues, I don't feel like it's going to happen.

I thought they were going to announce Fright Night Part 2 and Nightflyers shortly after they announced Dudes, but that was almost two years ago. If it was going to happen, or close to happening, it probably would've happened already.

With Fright Night Part 2, the last nugget we have to go on (to my knowledge) is this tweet from Severin's twitter, which appears to confirm that the film is with a label. I expect Severin to know their stuff, but still, we're 9 months down the line now, and who knows who long any such deal was made prior to that tweet. One suspects that legal issues are still curtailing a release. If we pass another October season and there's still no sign, there can surely be no other conclusion. You would think it would be with Scream, but there are of course a few other possibilities (Arrow or Kino spring to mind).

After all, today I was stunned to find out that a UK label (I don't know which one) have had the rights to The Haunting of Julia for three years. Goodness knows what's going on there, but there have been some widely-documented issues surrounding access to the original negative, so presumably it is related to that (though again, there could be other issues).

I'm so over Fright Night II's elusiveness on Blu-ray. I've been enjoying my excellent bootleg for 5+ years. The Menendez brothers can keep their rights.

Are there any indications that this pricing model is going to go away? Or is it just going to get worse? They don't seem to ever go below $24.99 anymore.

Well, this is news to me. Sounds like a label DOES have it, but there is still potential for rights issues stopping it from happening. We'll see I guess.

You just described arguably a good 75% of most of these genre films and probably 99% of Vinegar Syndrome's/Code Red's/Scorpions Library. Nostalgia, atmosphere, effects, amibiance... most of the reasons these films are so beloved is not because of the movie itself, but because of the period they were made, the content within, the look/sound, etc.

Criterion sat on their Cronenberg titles for a few years before releasing the Blu Ray's, my votes with them.

Dig deeper and don't be afraid of the long game. I've picked up most if not all of my Scream Factory releases over the last year for less than $24.99. Many for less than $20. You have to be willing to jump on things quickly though as sometimes the prices appeared only for a few days to a few weeks during the pre-order period. If you want specific examples/prices I can provide them.

I think the pricing is actually slightly better than it was 6 months ago. I paid $24.99 for Collector's Editions of The Entity and Frankenstein Created Woman, which I don't think is terrible and the non-Collector's Editions are around $20-22.

Some Collector's editions were going for $28-30 a while back.

I'm waiting on the Hunted, the Manitou, and Superstition to drop a little lower.

Hamilton books has The Manitou and Superstition for $17.95 and $16.95 respectively... shipping is $4 regardless of order size. Add in tax and you're looking at just under $40 for both titles.

Don't everyone go rush to buy these at once though as I still need to place my order for them and need to wait until next Friday to do so as I've spent a bunch with all the sales and my June pre-orders so I'm trying to avoid the wrath of my wife by waiting.

Yep. It's still not as great as their cheapest days, but, it's definitely better than it was last Autumn.

I sadly don't know the staff size of Shout/Scream vs the other labels to validate their podcast comments about only having so much margin to work with and still cover overhead etc. With the number of titles they put out across Scream, and then Shout (movies, tv-series, Select line, educational/documentary/info-tainment stuff) I could see them having more staffing costs etc to cover vs some of the others.

Not saying I believe that's the sole reason for their pricing structure the past year-ish, but...I could see it having SOME impact on not being able to drop as low as some of the others.
