The way to get audio from this would be to use an optical cable from each of your components to the receiver. The downside to this is that you will not be able to get the hd audio codecs.

really?? this blows.. i just paid 500 plus bucks for this thing and it wont work with my bluray player... i cant even get video to play on my bluray player.. and what do you mean by not being able to get the hd audio codecs

in order to get hd audio codecs the receiver must be able to accept audio through HDMI also commonly known as PCM

If you can only get audio through an optical cable you will not be able to listen to the dolby tru hd and DTS HD tracks that blu rays have because optical cables do not have the required bandwidth to pass these lossl less tracks.

as for the video not working, did you cnahge the output in the blu ray player to HDMI out?

What Blu Ray player do you have?

there should just be an option on your blu ray player in the menu where you can switch the output to HDMI

or it could be that you need to switc the output to HDMI on the receiver

I just checked out the manual and from I could tell it can play HDMI audio. On page 24 of the manual I got on the Samsung site, it says that you have to set the HDMI Audio to AVR to allow the audio to play through your speakers. The other option is TV and it will pass the audio through the receiver and into the TV.

Also, on page 15 it says "By connecting through the HDMI(High-Definition Multimedia Interface) interface, you can play back digital video and audio
without conversion to analog." This is for the connection of a Blu-ray player.

As for the Anynet+ feature, have you turned it on? Sounds like it must be turn on to be used. And it looks like you control everything with the TV remote.

this option doenst pop up on my setting for some reason... all the others do.. ive done test tone, and DRC setting, etc.. .. and anynet feature is turned on.. trust me i wish it was this easy.. i dunno why im haivng this problem, im usually good with things like this.. and i find it odd that HDMI audio option isnt presented on the screen

Here, this is what the manual says:

Before using!
• Press the INPUT MODE button to select HDMI1 or HDMI2. (see page 21)
• If you select Digital (Optical, Coaxial) or Analog, the HDMI audio setting will be deactivated.

1.) Press SETUP/MENU button, and then press the ENTER
button.
• “SETUP MODE” appears on the display and goes into Setup Mode.

2.) Press the LEFT/RIGHT button to select the “HDMI AUDIO”, and then
press the ENTER button.
• “HDMI : AVR” appears on the display.

3.) Press the UP/DOWN button to set the HDMI audio.
• Each time you press this button, HDMI : AVR ➝HDMI : TV will be selected in turn.

To exit setup mode
• Wait for about 5 seconds or press SETUP/MENU button.
“SETUP OFF” appears on the display and Setup Mode is exited.

The HDMI audio out setting shouldn't be a concern if the unit is new, as factory preset is AVR, not TV.

Another setting to look at is the output of your devices. The Sony S550 may need to be told to output audio over HDMI, and the cable box most definitly will.

As for Anynet, it may be possible that the Samsung Anynet not recognize Sony's BraviaLink signal, since the cross-manufacturer HDMI-CEC, which was supposed to be settled, doesn't exactly appear to be...

how do i change the settings on the cable box.. and the 550.. and when i change the settings will it make the video work as well?..

Sorry, I was under the impression that you didn't have the manual. Definitely make sure the blu-ray player outputs the audio over HDMI and not over analog. Since it is capable of passing audio over analog cables, maybe that is the default setting. I don't know, just an assumption.

yea man no worries.. just here... the thing that sucks is that i cant see whats going on the bluray player because i have no video.. when i turn on the player the receiver turns on automatically.. and the player plays.. and the receiver is set to dvd hdmi1 but the tv doenst connect, so i get no video.. and theres no sound either
