Thumbs up 2010 Genesis coupe review :D

So I drove the new 2010 Genesis Coupe today. 306hp V6 Grand Touring Edition. It was amazing. I made friends with the salesman so he took me to the local regional airport. Where there's no cars and lots of 'S' turns. The suspension held SO well and the steering is super tight. I love that RWD When we got out onto the highway we took it up to 100 and it felt so smooth, you werent thrown back in the seat even though we were hauling! The interior is really well set up and tastefully done. All the lines and angles are a really nice touch for this car. The only thing I would have wanted is a GPS option, but... When I get back from BMT in August I'll be getting the 4 cyl turbo track edition.
I'm really surprised at how far Hyundai has come with this. Go check one out!

2.0L Turbo > 3.6 V6

It will be easier to mod the turbo and the gains will be easier and cheaper than on the 3.6 NA. Plus the engine is lighter.

We had a long thread about this car but then it vanished.

Anyway, ACD, what do you normally drive? I haven't seen any of the coupes around here yet. I'll have to keep my eyes open.

well. I had an '07 cobalt that my mom bought me but i recently had to sell it back to the dealership because she fell on hard times and my full time student/part time working butt couldnt afford it at all. But I'll be in the Air Force soon and this car, besides my phone, would be my only expense for around 4 years :/ So I figure why not!

well, from what I was reading, and what the salesman told me, the engine placement/weight distribution and suspension was built so you dont feel the car jerk around while accelerating or decelerating. I guess it comes down to what you like in a car. I guess they wanted to kep a little of the gen sedan luxury in there? idk, but I'm a big fan of the super stiff track suspension that I know a lot of people hate. Like everything in life, I suppose, comes down to personal taste.
So guys, red or black

So I found specs on the "R-Spec" genesis coupe... to my disappointment. I was thinking it would be a beefed up 4 cyl, maybe up-tuned a bit or something. But it's actually the 4 cyl turbo track edition minus bluetooth, steering wheel controls, cruise control and automatic headlights. But hyundai then added even stiffer front and rear springs and tightened the lock to lock turning ratio. This car was said to be built for those who are purely into this car for racing and tuning... which is fine. they said the luxuries taken out reduced weight a little and obviously cut costs a bit. It's being offered for $3,000 less than the normal track edition.

Unfortunately, like i said, i was hoping I'd be getting a 260 hp 4 cyl turbo with the r-spec but was let down. I still cant wait to get my track edition, but now I'll have to break warranty and up-tune it myself :/ I figured I can justify buying a $26k car with all this stuff way better than justifying buying a $23k car without cruise control and automatic headlights which my moms 97 chevy venture base model sports 0.o I dont see how that cuts weight. its a sensor that weighs less than an ounce.

oh well, i'll stop now. Just wanted to inform any of you that this interests.

Finally ran across a 2.0T on the road in silver. Looked good, better than the red one at the auto show did. Unfortunately for him he was trying to play with a current style Vette when I came up in my modded Cobra.

Still, seemed like a great car for the money.

no but i got a fairly new Sonata out in the drive way that needed a new motor at 30,000 miles and a radio that turns on by itself, oh and we need to have all the door handles re painted cuz the paint is flaking off. and the only thing that is covered under there "Awesome 100,000 mile Warranty" was the motor everything else is "normal wear and tear" evidently.

I've seen on at Best Buy when I bought Notorious on Blu. I looked at it, and I said Damn! That's pretty sharp. Hyundai has done a nice job, but for me I don't think I can downgrade from an Acura to a Hyundai. That's just me. I know it's more powerful, but to me it's a Hyundai badge.

I glimpsed one of these on the front of the local Hyundai lot about three weeks ago and had to do a double take and actually thought it was a Tyburon(?) to be honest.
So I started looking into it, and I've become really impressed especially with this R-Spec version. There was a real nice 30 minute "Test Drive" segment on Speedchannel recently, too.
I'd have to say that right now, I'm solidly in the 370Z column, but this Genesis is on the radar.

*I currently lease a 07 Civic Si sedan, turn that in Jan 2010.

Now that is a car. Do you think the new CEO(Obama) will keep the line going?

Now to get on topic. I'm a V-8 man, but I really like this car. My neighbors thinking of getting one, so I may be able to put it through the paces soon.

Pick up Car and Driver with the V6 shootout on the cover - Camaro V-6 (304 HP) vs Genesis Coupe (306 HP).

Camaro barely beat it out (I think it was 1 point).

The synopsis was that the Hyundai was fast and performance was there but the suspension and drive line punished you and didn't try to smooth out little mistakes like the Camaro did.

They felt that because of the harshness in the driveline, that this could open the door for major issues down the line with premature failure.
The recommendation was wait for 1 one revision of refinement.

That's generally good advice all the way around...the first year car typically has more ill's than the subsequent years.

The R-Spec has a higher tuned suspension plus Brembo brakes!

The HKS kit for this car is amazing and beautiful.

Here's my favorite Genesis Coupe so far:

You should see the coupes in Japan. They are insane. 19" BBS meshies! I swear some of them are only 1" off the ground.

Most of the companies doing exhausts are using the Titanium burnt tips which are just ridiculously good looking.

There will be many front mount intercooler kits for this car.
