Yes, finally. My favorite Disney animation. I hope it looks as good as LK.

Seemed like no-brainers marketing-wise.
Disney probably don't want to bother restoring these films again, at least not yet. The Little Mermaid was the exception.

Poppins '64 is restored in 4K but would need an HDR pass.
Cinderella will need a better quality restoration before being released in 4K.

It being a CAPS 2K movie I'm expecting something very similar to Loin King: virtually no resolution bump over the BD with a very mild HDR pass to boot.

Lion King on BD looked better than Aladdin. Aladdin had weird halos around lines and if UHD gets rid of them without damaging anything else - I'll be happy.

OutofBoose beat me to the punch - I think Aladdin might fare a bit better because of the over-sharpening applied to the original BD. Also the color palate for Aladdin has some pretty extreme saturation in sections - even more extreme than in some sections of Lion King. So while it's still not going to be a revelation it's likely going to be a slightly bigger jump since Lion King's original Blu-ray was already so fantastic (minus the missing cloud issue) while Aladdin had some room for improvement. Plus we may see a bit more image if they un-crop from 1.85:1 to 1.78:1.

"As they did with the cryptic dust in the sky of The Lion King, Disney has edited the soundtrack in a supposedly controversial part of Aladdin. When on Jasmine's balcony, Aladdin supposedly told someone (perhaps virtuous adolescents) to "take off (their) clothes." Surely such a claim is silly, but when Disney goes and edits the original film, the rumor looks legit. The urban legend of Aladdin's naughty advice is even addressed
and refuted by the directors in their audio commentary. Nonetheless, now Aladdin's audio has been edited to include a tiny blank spot where the line was, and the only words clearly uttered are "Down, kitty."
The Diamond Edition already put the line back (sounding much clearer than it did on VHS).

I recall the odd sharpening (which seemed to be on one axis but not another) on the BD but you know what'll happen, right? If the UHD doesn't have the sharpening then people will start complaining about how it's so much softer than the old Blu-ray

Lion King like Aladdin was animated at 1.6:1. Lion King specifically was hard matted to 1.85:1 on laserdisc and in theaters, then shown in IMAX unmatted at 1.55:1 (with very slight cropping on the sides). Then It was very slightly matted to 1.66:1 on top and bottom for DVD, then matted slightly more to 1.78:1 for the 3D/2D/4K, so its not unprecedented.

Beauty and the Beast has consistently variable aspect ratios on home video as well. Aladdin was animated at 1.6:1 (native ratio of Caps) but protected up to 1.85:1. Its laserdisc and digital versions show the majority of the image at 1.66:1, while Blu-ray is cropped to 1.85:1.

So I wasn't the only one who noticed the over-sharpening of the original BD. Good to know!

Can't wait for the UHD!

Lion King, Little Mermaid, and Aladdin will complete my Disney animated films on UHD. I'll stick to the regular BDs for the rest.

EDIT: I forgot about Beauty and the Beast. These 4 are the pinnacle of Disney animation for me.

Agreed. Though I will continue to buy Disney on 4K since those are basically the only titles I buy. But these 4 I wanted the most.

Personally I'd also buy 4k's for Peter Pan, Pinnochio and most likely for The Fox & the Hound and Lady & the Tramp aswell (oh and Frozen/Moana/Zootropolis, forgot those). But yeah, that's it. I got the big Disney Collector's edition (with all Classics up to Moana), so I'm happy with that, it's not like blu-ray quality is that much worse when it comes to classics.

I'm up to purchase any Disney film in 4K if the video and audio quality are handled with care.

Count me in on Aladdin. As well as The Black Cauldron, Fantasia 2000 (with original IMAX aspect ratio), Lilo and Stitch, Fantasia, Atlantis, The Emporer's New Groove, and Treasure Planet among others.

Oh man! You are missing out. That is a classic. I especially love it when Nala and Simba "get together" as Simba sings "Can You Feel My Loin Tonight?".
