Only an Oppo would allow you to connect an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) via HDMI.

I don't own an ATV4K, should I? I just use my TV's built-in apps for what little streaming I do.

I kind of feel this way, but more from a non subscriber standpoint

I use it because it allows iTunes collection access playback besides Vudu, MoviesAnywhere, Amazon Prime, and a number of other familiar streaming apps that are not part of LG WebOS accessable. Plus tvOS Environment is seeing continued functionality. Such as Picture in Picture, so you are playing video and can go into the GUI for other real time adjustments. (Public beta tvOS 13) now PB2 out.

I feel like such a dinosaur when you guys talk about streaming apps and streaming devices.

If my cable box turns on I'm happy.

If I put a disc in and it plays I'm happy.

I'm a simple man with simple needs.

Hopefully, you are also a fit man who watches while standing, lest you incur that sitting on your keister tax.

I prefer to have the app on the player. I’ve had enough personal and clients’ experiences, for TVs with heavy usage of wifi, the built in wifi card becomes unreliable and/or not working at all AFTER the 1 year warranty ends. I’ve seen enough Sony, LG and Samsung with failed wifi card after about 1.5 years of heavy wifi usage.

My first two flat panel TV's were smart TV's, the next two were dumb TV's and the last one was a smart TV because LG did not offer a dumb version.

Must be that your customers TV is in a basement during the winter.

Yeah, but I’ve had the same experience with consoles and BD players. The WiFi went out on our son’s Sony BD player. Luckily we had another, plugged it in and it works fine. We’ve had both those players for 9 years. I’ll eventually upgrade to a 4K player either via Xbox or a separate UHD player down the line. As mine is the only 4K flatscreen for the moment. Anyway, I think it’s the shitty WiFi card these companies use more the actual device.

actually, none of them are located in the basement. For more than 90% of them, basement is only for projectors, the TV in the livingroom is the one mostly for streaming, TVs in bedroom (when applicable) for watching cable.

Well, if you have the unit for more than 3 years, it is to be expected. But what I wrote is based on 1-2 years old TVs. Any electronics, given time, will break. It's not a matter of if but a matter of when.

I never had a wifi card go out on anything, but I am by no means a "heavy user", either.

Currently, my TV and my computer are hard wired to the internet while everything else is on wifi. My streaming results are identical over both wired and wireless connections, so hard wiring the TV to the internet was unnecessary, but I like conducting my own experiments and so I did. I am too lazy to unwire the TV now that its done.

I did have to repair my computer yesterday; a 120mm x 25mm mid tower case fan failed and my computer overheated while I was yakking on the phone oblivious to it all. Now, computer fans that you do not select and buy yourself are often cheap unreliable junk. The case fan that failed came with the case, but it had actually lasted several years, so I can't really complain.

Thankfully, I had 2 replacement fans on hand and with pretty blue LED lights, too. Now I want to replace the other perfectly good 120mm case fan because it has white LED lights. What kind of geeky geek has extra computer fans on hand? And with LED lights?

Exactly. And as long as they don’t I’ll continue to hand them down to our son when I upgrade

Me too. My parents wouldn’t have 4K anything if I didn’t continue to upgrade

Now do you also prefer being Hard Wired? I'm Hard Wired to my Sony going on 2 years with no problems, and the Android Apps are updated consistently and run solid. When I used my Panasonic BD Player for Streaming that was Hard Wired too, and it ran solid. I guess the Roku's are better now, but I feel the Sticks are not that reliable. The Chips and Processors are better in High End TV's and Players for reliable Streaming.

Keep buying discs. Better quality. I mean is it really that inconvenient to take out the disc and put it in the player? I don't think a lot of these 4K remasters are worth it but Blu-ray definitely is.
