And then of course there's Star Wars. It'd be a knockout blow for HD-DUD if both trilogies were released alongside the PS3 release of 'Force Unleashed'. Assuming that HD-DUD makes it through this holiday season.

Oh, and I'm new. So welcome to me. First post. Hoooray.

cant wait for fight club on a 50gb disc in avc w/pcm 7.1......its really frustrating but it will happen.....and for those saying there have been no fox titles with a good PQ....have you not seen kingdom of heaven?? its still mpeg2, but its on a 50gb disc and is very impressive.....these studios do need to exclusively use avc from this point on though.....calling a 1080p bd on a 25gb disc with mpeg2 HD is like watching the HD channels of abc, fox, and espn....720p shouldnt be considered high definition anymore

Hopefully the Star Wars trilogy will be out by next year. I want to see Star Wars Epi 3 on Blu-ray encoded in AVC 7.1 audio of course.

ya the whole fox thing is wierd I wish they would do a press release letting us know whats going on. I have heard they are working on the bd+ protection thing fox do not want their blurays cracked for all to copy. I can see their point just look how the music industry has been gutted by piracy. WE need better copywrite protection.

Shooter and MI (trilogy) I think are major MPEG-2 encodes by Paramount.
XMEN-3 PQ sucked at times. It was because of the way it was shot (Super35 + Film grain). I don't think it can be improved any further. I have Speed a Fox title which looks and sound good. I am not sure about the rest.

Coming back to the topic this entire BD+ is a sheer waste of time (not effort).
As another member pointed out Warner managed to sell 300K copies of 300 in 2 weeks and it hasn't hurt their credibility or sales. No one is complaining about piracy which is always a potential INEVITABILITY.

The only press release you'll see on the subject will be the one announcing new titles.

As I said before, the goal of copy protection is to be the biggest pain in the ass possible. Since they can rewrite their BD+ scheme at any time, and the module is required for decoding, they can neither disable it, nor can they bypass it for more than a short time

Not really, sales of all but the best titles don't amount to much. Fox believes greater security is a good business decision and the lost sales so far haven't really amounted to anything. Who cares whether we wait a few months as long as BD+ works as advertised and doesn't cause incompatibility with discs for early players like my Samsung BD-P1000. If BD+ creates a mess with incompatible discs for some players, then we will have a problem.

Chris

I'm sorry, but Fox needs to at least issue a statement or something to let everyone know they still have a pulse or something.

At least us know definitively yes or no that you're coming back in for the holidays or not. It doesn't need to be any more specific than that.

A one sentence press release to that effect would be good enough for me.

Anyone else notice that there are no Blu-ray movies listed for upcoming release on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving? This should be one of the biggest weeks for any type of media. The best week being the Tuesday before Thanksgiving of course.

Could it be the other blu-studios are "letting" Fox have this week (November 27th). It seems very suspicious that there are big-name titles before and after the week of the 27th. If that's the case they are going to need to announce soon...

Crossing fingers...

X men III, Courage Under Fire, Flyboys, Night at the Musem for the kids and family (decent), both Transporter films, The Sentinel, Usual Suspects, League of Extraordinary Gentleman, and probably a few others strays I can't remember, but that's pretty much most of what they've put out thus far.

I agree.

It seems inconceivable to me that Black Friday and pretty much that entire time period between Thanksgiving and Christmas wouldn't see some serious and aggressive BD software and hardware action.

Honestly, there's really no excuse for that above scenario to not happen. This Christmas can and should be the end of all of this nonsense.

I realize the studios want to release newer titles first but since I'm a history
buff I can't wait for Warner's to release it's historical epics on Blu Ray ..
Ben Hur , Doctor Zhivago , King of Kings ,just to mention a few. I'd like to see Fox release "Passion of the Christ " on Blu Ray but come to think of it the standard DVD almost seemed like Blu Ray quality

Default Fox reicent until they see $$$

If I remember correctly, Fox was very reluctant to produce DVDs and did not do so until the format was clearly successful and they realized that they could make some good cash.

Actually it's not, because everyone is getting ready for Black friday and travelling and such

And announcements for November in August? Solicitation period is typically 6-8 weeks.

Fox was in there from the beginning with crappy LD rehashes. It took Peter Staddon coming in, listening to the fans and championing things like the 2-disc special edition, TV on DVD, and tons of other things that are now industry standard and great sellers to bring them around. He's still there, he still works hard, and NO ONE can ever claim he doesn't care about the enthusiast market.
