When it comes to renting games, i am not big into it. I was recently discussed this with a friend on mine. I wanted to see what your guys thoughts on this as well. I think it is not a waste of money, but i want to get your thoughts. Growing up renting was the way to go, but now it seems that it is too expensive and not worth the cost. It is almost too much of a hassle to go pick it and have to drop it back off. (Yes, i am lazy in that aspect) What are your thoughts on this? I know we have many gamers here (which will probably grow with KZ 2 being released
![]() 1)If you could easily and inexpensively rent video games, would you start renting games instead of buying games? NO 2)If you had the opportunity to rent a video game from a vending machine (example "red box" for video games), how interested would you be in the opportunity on a scale of 1 to 10? (1=Terrible Idea, 5=Okay Idea, 10=Awesome Idea) 1-- I do not like renting, i will read reviews and talk with ppl i know, but i am not big into renting. 3)Do you wish that you could easily and inexpensively rent games before buying them? Maybe, buy for now, i just buy my games 4)What kind of game system owner do you consider yourself? I play about 15 hours a week |

1. Depends. I'd be sure to get exposed to many more new franchise's. Most of the games I buy, I know I've played the previous iterations and had fun with them.
2. I couldn't see myself doing that. I've never used a redbox either. 3. Yes 4. Around 15hrs/week as well The problem I have is I always miss the due date and end up paying 2x the rental rate. At that point I might as well have bought it. |

free demos from PS Store > $8 rentals from Blockbuster
I do have to add that I use Redbox allllmost every week. I signed up at their website and get free rental codes texted to my cell every Monday. For several months now, they've been vending certain new-release Blu-rays for the same price ($1/night or free with code) as plain ol' DVDs. I'd recommend it to anyone. In general, Netflix, Blockbuster online and Gamefly aren't for me. I'd rather pick it out and pick it up in person...and I hate that waiting for mail eats away my rental time. |

I pretty much only rent. Gamefly has saved me over $2000 on the PS3 thusfar and I have played vastly more games than I would have otherwise.
Your poll is broken, no option to say "yes I rent, love it, whatever". |

It depends on the games, for me. I feel like I'm getting too old for games, so I no longer care about playing every new decent game coming out, and instead just focus on the big ones, or the ones that interest me.
After picking up MLB 09 next week, and Legends of Wrestlemania a few weeks later (I enjoyed wrestling in the early 90s, and it seems like it will be a fun trip down Nostalgia Lane), I don't think I'll be buying anymore games for quite a while. I do see a purpose to signing up for something like GameFly though, so every few months I can rent a few of the games that have come out, and see what they are like. Maybe even beat them, if they aren't long/I have the time. Things like Mirrors Edge, MGS4, etc. worked well for this. I was intrigued enough to want to play them, but don't care about playing them more than once, so a rental was good for me. The only games I've purchased in the last year are games that seem to have a lot of longevity, so sports games, and online games. In roughly the last year (since GTA IV came out), the only games I've purchased were: - GTA IV (I made an exception for this, since I'd been a fan of the series since the first GTA on PS1) - Virtua Tennis (I got it for $6 at Sears) - Rock Band 2 (party game, will have a long life, new songs, etc) - LittleBigPlanet (fun to create stuff, and that seemed like it'd keep the game fresh for a long time) - Buzz! Trivia (explained below) I got RB2, LBP and Buzz! all for $80 + tax, brand new. They were paid for ahead of time, so I picked up RB2 and LBP when they came out. I feel like I got my $ worth out of each of those games (especially the $6 Virtua Tennis), so I'm happy with those. But I can't see myself paying $60 for a regular one-player game, that I can't imagine playing more than once (and with how little I play games, I have no desire to play through story-based games more than once). So, yeah, I vote for rent, but it depends on the game. |

i only rent for the most part....... with the no late fee's at blockbuster i can rent a game, beat it or play the hell out of it, a month and a half for 8 bucks is not bad, enough for me unless it has addictive online play.

For $30 I but a 7 coupon booklet at Hollywood Video (called Movie Gallery here in Canada)usable for either free movie or 1 week game rentals. I get my money value back after using 3-4 on games. They never expire which is a good thing as I rarely rent but buy the games I want. I only use them really to rent games I may want to buy. ie Fallout 3

I rent games from time to time I know I would not be interested in playing more than once. Unless it is survival horror, it all depends for me on who makes the game the ratings and how I feel before I decide to rent or buy. If I am iffy about a title I will rent it, but if I feel I will like it based on the demo or whatever I will buy it. So I would have put an option I rent games but the OP never really just put a "I rent games" option I don't care about the red box lol.

1)If you could easily and inexpensively rent video games, would you start renting games instead of buying games?
No, I love collecting them and I'm don't get easily bored with all the games I can play them repeatly. 2)If you had the opportunity to rent a video game from a vending machine (example "red box" for video games), how interested would you be in the opportunity on a scale of 1 to 10? 3 = It sounds ok, my friend would be interest but no for me. 3)Do you wish that you could easily and inexpensively rent games before buying them? No, I love buying them and tear all the seal. 4)What kind of game system owner do you consider yourself? PS3 freak. Games 40% Movies 60% __________________ |

i never rent games, buy have been toying with the idea of using gamefly to play some games that im not really interested in owning but still want to get a little taste of, and who knows? maybe itll change my mind about buying, i think a red box type of system for games would be a good option too, im surprised its not already being done

This is the reason why i don't rent games. When I rent games, i feel like being rushed to finish my games and not enjoy them as much if i took my sweet time finishing them.

I buy only, considering i have paid $20 or less for 90% of my collection, i have no need to rent. I have bought over 20 360/PS3 Games in the last 3 months for under $10, so why should i bother renting. And if its a have to have game i buy it at release or at least on sale, but i still use coupons and rwz certs to my advantage as well. Its all about being a savvy shopper.
