And while I definitely don’t believe having a gay villain is homophobic at all — hell, it makes me even more excited to see this — the article’s assertion that “the way he acts in general makes it pretty clear that he’s gay” isn’t quite not homophobic.

Having a bisexual woman as a movie's villain doesn't make that a representation of ALL bisexual women. Especially in this day and age, when every movie and TV show jams in as many black, gay and Asian faces as possible, all playing roles both heroic and nefarious, this argument holds no water anymore. I seem to remember there was a character on Glee played by an actress with Down's Syndrome who was anything but a lovable avatar for the inherent "innocence" of the mentally challenged, and the actress in question actively pushed to land the role, because, let's face it, it's always more fun to play a Bad Guy. And I don't recall any protests over that, because...the role was played by an actress who actually did have Down's Syndrome? If the role was played by an actress who didn't have D.S., would that have been construed as offensive? If an American actor plays a role with a British accent, and the characters they play is a villain, is that offensive? What about vice-versa? How many times has Gary Oldman played an American villain with a flawless accent and no one has batted an eye?

I don't disagree with you but GLAAD and other gay rights activists did in fact criticized that movie and there were actual protests in San Francisco over the movie's portrayal of the bisexual character as villainous psychopath.

Uh Oh...

On Twitter, Screen Rant's Stephen M. Colbert noted on Saturday that the audience test screening of the Margot Robbie-starring film had people "raving about it" but the same could not be said for the internal Warner Bros. test screenings. Apparently, the executives had the exact opposite reaction to the film.

Possibly, but if WB has enough control of the movie and they really don't like the movie as it is, this will happen. Maybe if The Kitchen and Joker (two upcoming R rated DC movies) are successful enough to them, they'll let them keep it R.

Here's the thing with test screenings. We don't know the make up of the subject or what the result are in detail. Which is why I don't put stock in them.

'John Wick' Director Chad Stahelski to Oversee New Action Scenes for 'Birds of Prey' (Exclusive)

Stahelski is taking an uncredited role to design and work on additional action scenes for the Margot Robbie headliner.

John Wick director Chad Stahelski is coming in to help the Birds of Prey kick some more butt.

The filmmaker, who cut his teeth in the action world, has been brought in to oversee second unit photography for Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), Warner Bros.' Margot Robbie-starring adventure movie based on DC Comics characters.

The movie is heading into additional photography as it works its way through post-production ahead of a February 2020 release. Cathy Yan is making her big studio debut as director with the high-profile entry and will work with Stahelski on the new shoots that is in the action realm, many times known as second unit. Stahelski, taking an uncredited role, will tackle and design new action scenes for the movie. In some ways, this is Stahelski doubling down on the movie as his company, stunt firm 87 Eleven, has been working on the movie since production began.

Prey sees Robbie reprising her role as DC antiheroine Harley Quinn, with the character gathering up other female heroes such as Black Canary and the Huntress to take on a crime lord by the name of Black Mask. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ewan McGregor also star.

Stahelski began his career in the stunt world, acting as Keanu Reeves’ double in The Matrix and later coordinating stunt work in a slew of movies. His second unit work ranges from Ninja Assassin and The Hunger Games to Escape Plan and Captain America: Civil War.

It’s his work on the Wick franchise that has established him as one of the premiere filmmakers currently in the action field. John Wick 3 – Parabellum, released May 17, was the latest entry and grossed $320.7 million worldwide.

Stahelski, who frequently works with action partner David Leitch, is repped by WME.

Reading this, my little old Dad's voice came into my head, with a phrase I've heard so often all these decades: "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear".... While I think it is admirable that they are trying to add more action to the chick flick they accidentally made, most particularly in light of fan reactions to prior information coming out, they already committed to a Harley story in which Harley isn't really Harley at all. Somehow, I don't imagine that he'll be able to fix that aspect of the story, without deleting a couple of scenes and significantly changing the interaction between a couple of different sets of characters. No action in the world will fix those few moments that make this less than it should have been. A re-cut might, a full re-cut, removing a bunch of "modern" stuff from the story, maybe.... Maybe.

I was concerned earlier this year when they announced Huntress, Cain and Black Canary. Think they were announced a month prior to filming. Meanwhile actors such as Larson & Gadot were training for months prior to their roles.

I mean unless they were told months in advance, this recent news doesn't surprise me.

Sounds like they're increasing the action spectacle aspect. I doubt the story is adjusted much, if at all.
