the ps3 is a great piece of hardware, im glad sony didnt make the same mistake microsoft did

the failure rates of 360s are unbelievable, my 360 got the red rings of death, and so did everyone of my friends

i even had to pay for shipping to get it fixed which was about 30 bucks, i couldnt believe it

microsoft said they would send me a box, but the box never arrived, so i had to send it in myself

360 might only end up selling about 40-50 million worldwide at the end of it's cycle and that's me being generous.People just say "I've had it M$" and wise up and get themselfs a PS3 instead.

two words HOLY **** lol. I was expecting at least a 1-2% failure rate. 0.2% is a stunning failure rate. the ps3 definetly is rock solid.

Very nice to know that my console can handle a freezer, a sauna, and whatever else I throw at it (my controller) .

Actually, this is the type of news that Sony needs to trumpet from the tall towers.

Downright amazing, really.

Isn't the "nominal/typical" failure rate of any given set of consumer electronics somewhere like 3-5 percent?

I had heard that both Nintendo and Sony were enjoying incredibly low failure rates.

They weren't kidding!

I can easily believe this; my PS3 runs 24/7 and it hasn't so much as hiccuped.

That's being REALLY generous seeing as the first one only managed half of that in its whole lifespan.

If my 360 had reliability #'s like these to back it up I probably would buy more games, I just am scared to invest to heavily into a ticking time bomb.

"A lot of noise has been made recently about the reliability issues of one of our competitor's systems. So, not surprisingly, some of our more ambitious PlayStation faithfuls [from fan site PS3 Vault] decided to run their own stress test on the PlayStation 3. They put it in a freezer at zero degrees for up to 108 hours and they put it in a sauna at 120 degrees for up to 64 hours -- all the while running games and Blu-ray Disc movies on it. Did it fail? Nope. Like the Energizer Bunny, it kept going and going and going. Probably not something you want to try at home, but our thanks to the guys at PS3 Vault for putting our system through the ringer."

Read about that torture test here:

I tried driving over my PS3 and it still works 99.999% better than my 7th xbox 360.
