Not saying Ben Hur isn’t a great film but lol Academy Awards mean almost nothing when it comes to quality and it’s hardly a defense. Titanic also won 11 Oscars and I’d be hard pressed to say it’s one of the greatest movies ever made. The first half is abysmal it’s so badly written. Crash also won Best Picture in 2005 and I’d say that movie is actually terrible.

It's kind of disappointing that WAC couldn't come up with some archival extras for this release. I know the DVD had nothing, and I know they don't usually provide extras not ported from DVDs, but I'm still surprised that they had nothing in terms of original promotional material which they could have put on here. Did this not get even a making of or some kind of HBO First Look featurette back in 1990?

Also, no trailer, either? Those are usually on WAC releases.

I don't know how bonus features with WAC go, but they should try and get Anjelica Huston to do an interview. When they screened "The Witches" at the Egyptian in January for the Nicolas Roeg tribute series, she was clearly having the time of her life speaking about it; she even reenacted the Grand High Witch's entrance.

It's always disappointing to find out actors don't like movies I've always enjoyed them. So I was delighted earlier, after seeing WAC's announcement, to find an article where Huston expressed her continued joy with The Witches and that the Grand High Witch remains one of her most cherished roles.

Here she even relates a funny story about it:

She chuckles, and happily recalls an experience in Virginia when she was filming the 2004 movie Iron Jawed Angels. "Someone on cast had a friend whose daughter was dressing up with her little friends as witches for Halloween," she recalls, with a conspiratorial smile, "and they were going to watch The Witches." Huston arranged to visit. "In the middle of the viewing I arrived at the house and went downstairs, where they all were, with their hats on and everything, watching the movie, and I opened the door and said [putting on her sinister, vaguely European, Grand High Witch voice], 'Thank you for inviting me!' I did the hair, a little purple make-up." She sighs happily. "I got them all screaming. It was good. There's nothing better than making children scream, I have to say."
