Since there hasn't been a 5.1 mix for Flight of the Navigator created to date (even the US Disney DVD was Dolby 2.0), I don't think that Second Sight is the kind of outfit that has the resources to commission one themselves.

That's not such a bad thing though, as it's usually much better to faithfully represent the source materials provided by the licensor than to make a mess out of things by trying to "improve" them.

The most amazing thing about the original blu-ray release was that it actually presented the film properly for the first time. The Cinema Club release was absolutely terrible. You know you have a problem when the BBC airings and video releases have better picture quality than DVD.

The 2004 US DVD from Disney was actually pretty decent.

I'm sure it was, but the UK DVD release was utterly, irredeemably awful - it was literally a VHS dubbed onto disc. Second Sight's first Blu of Navigator was rather good, as was their Short Circuit. Older transfers for sure, but they were decent. Can't wait to see this new remaster though!

I'm talking about the UK which this set is aimed at.

But even the VHS version looked better somehow.

I stand corrected, then. I'd presume that Splendid Entertainment (the German licensee) did their own up-mix, then.
