You might of wanted to wait on "The Lost Weekend". Kino is prepping a remaster that's going to be released at either the end of the year or in early 2020. Still though, the Eureka release looks solid for an older Uni master and the Wilder doc is worth the keep.

I guess the demand isn't high enough in the states for this movie, and the 2009 Studiocanal release has held up well? It's still in print too.
It's more likely Paramount being Paramount. The Optimum/SC disc does still look generally solid but I'd buy a new remaster.

Bought Female Trouble and Paris, Texas a few weeks ago, and decided that would be my lot for this sale...until I went back on Amazon and accidently ordered Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles. This afternoon I also made another completely unintentional mistake and ordered All That Jazz, The Baker's Wife and Scenes from a Marriage. I really need to delete that pesky amazon app

How many 99 reason DVDs are there? I know of 2 but I only have 1 since I missed getting the second one from Criterion when I'd place an order.

Lynch himself owns the rights here in the US despite being a joint-production with Studio Canal. Last time it was licensed to Rhino on DVD. I assume it'll come down to whenever he licenses it out again or releases it himself.

That said, it was digitally shot and isn't 1080p in the first place. However, there are format benefits such as better compression. The DVD is not the best the movie can look, though the international discs are probably as good as it can get. It remains to be seen how it'd be tweaked to Lynch's liking if at all when it eventually does get released in the US again.

Nothing's stopping me from importing but I'd love to support the movie if and when it gets released here.

+EDIT: Thought you were talking about Inland Empire, sorry

jw007 was talking about "The Elephant Man" and not "Inland Empire".

Was at a local Barnes and they already had these out on shelf!

And they rang up no issues!

Possibly did Criterion just say sale them early for more sales during the current sale

Either way Great Saturday morning so far

I appreciate the scoop on Inland Empire!

And yes, my original post was regarding the Elephant Man, but I'm glad you talked about Inland Empire's chances of getting a Lynch approved BD.

I have thought about importing both Paper Moon and The Elephant Man but I am convinced these will be released by Criterion eventually....

Sure, it can't be said that Tarantino doesn't have a bit of self-absorption, but you can also read the comment about FWWM as the line of a cocksure boy who is barely 30 and at Cannes for the first time with his first film. Similar to things I've read from PTA from when he was young too. I'd be curious what QT has to say about Lynch today, if his opinion or approach to conveying his opinion has changed.

Lest we forget Spike Lee and that baseball bat he had for Wim Wenders.

The thing is usually pre street titles will not let you ring them up. They usually give an error message esp at Barnes Target and Best Buy - although years ago at Best Buy you could get a lot of titles pre release date. Now not so much

The one thing he's said that's not wrong. Love Lynch, Love Twin Peaks, but FWWM was and still is such a badly overacted disaster. No one needed the prequel since we knew everything that happened via the show (and even then, Lynch and Engels flopped on several key facts established by the show).
Only in basic plot terms, not in character. You also take a weirdly plot-based approach to Twin Peaks - regarding your last point, I remember you complaining about the colour of Leo's shirt being wrong in FWWM or something as some kind of dealbreaker. I thought you were trolling last time but you seem serious, lol.

I really think you're focusing on the wrong things.

Taking the movie as a whole into account and later The Return, and not to mention the series itself, there's a lot of unreliable narrator type shenanigans going on. Even if they were retcons or dare I say flubs, without dumping a big spoiler here those bits come-off as intentional no matter intent or lack thereof because the entire nature of what eventually transpires is, well, not easily set in stone. lol

After taking my folks out to dinner for Dad's 72nd birthday, I'm watching two films in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11's landing on the Moon.

I've been saving A Trip to the Moon for today; this will be the first time I've ever seen it. And, of all the space race films I have, For All Mankind seemed most appropriate.

"Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the Moon. July 1969, A.D. We came in peace for all Mankind."
