This is one I will not be revisiting sadly. I had high hopes but it was incredibly disappointing. The only ones who sounded like they wanted to be there were Scar, Timon and Pumba. Glover and Beyoncé were straight up terrible in my opinion and neither delivered a single good line. Even James Earl Jones sounded like he phoned it in. Now maybe that was due to bad direction, but regardless the end product is weak regardless.
The first half of the movie was passable mostly but I was just waiting for it to end in the second half. The Be Prepared scene was atrocious and the fight with Scar at the end was pitiful. Two pluses I will give it over the original though is Mufasa showing up during the hyena scene and giving Simba more time to reflect on what happened before meeting Timon and Pumba. 3/5 at best |

![]() For realistic animals, it's a careful line to consider with expressions. If going for realism, for animals to express themselves like humans, might be going too far into making it unrealistic. If going for realism, moving the mouths subtly might be the better option at the cost of being less emotional visually. EDIT: Disney had to decide to go with human expressions or realistic expressions from animals, and they chose realism. Was that the best choice? Could this be viewed as one of those talking dog and cat movies where we see the real animal with simple animal expressions as someone narrates their voice? Only Dumbo has failed to live up to my expectations this year--it was truly one of the worst films of the year. Aladdin was fantastic and The Lion King was about as good as I thought it would be, given all the pre-release criticism. I enjoyed it, as I've enjoyed all the iterations of this story one way or another.

This. It felt so rushed up. I didn't get emotions during that part. They even changed the dialogue. Simba's face was the worst of it. I think they missed a big opportunity in here.

After watching the remake Thursday, I don't agree with critics and bloggers saying the animals are not emotive.
I defended it before the film was released, and I'll say it now, the animals emote very well. A large part of that has to do with the eyes and the way their bodies move in general. The hyenas are especially emotive. |

Again, while not big fan of the Disney live-action adaptations, I was looking forward to this since I LOVED Jungle Book. The animal driven ones seem to gravitate me more to them.
With that said, while it doesn't compare to the emotion and impact of the original, I really enjoyed it. For the cute animals alone ![]() |

The original is good no matter how bad. The remake is bad by association no matter how good.

I am giving this a 3.5 out of 5 vs the 4.5 out of 5 for the original. Yes the animals all looked amazing and the lighting was amazing as well as the scenery but I guess all of us who grew up on hand drawn/animated movies miss those imperfections and small details that computer generated animals miss as it is too perfect/too life like.
I was able to show the kids in my class yesterday the original Lion King after I saw the remake the night before. I told them that the original was better. Most of them never saw the original movie. My daughter has seen the original movie and she is 4. I don't think she will last very long watching computer generated photo realistic animals . |

I wish the "King of Pride Rock" score was like the one in the trailer. Wasn't really a fan of it in the movie.

I appreciated it on a visual level and the singing didn't bother me anywhere near as much as I'd expected.
That said... The thing that's stopping this from being anything more than a one time watch for me is the voice cast. Why does 90% of them sound so bloody bored? None of the oomph of the original. *Snarls* "Is that a challenge!" Vs *Literally just speaks* "Is that a challenge?" |
