I got my copy earlier today. I've not watched it yet, but given the info posted in the DVDBeaver review of the 2015 US Blu-ray here, it looks like the UK may have waited four years to get...the exact same encode. Very strange, especially as the two extras have been encoded with an average video bitrate that is some 10 Mbps higher than the main feature.
However, while the video may not be different, on the bright side, the yellow subtitles from the US disc have been replaced with white ones that appear to be properly Anglicised, too.

how does this review, which seems to state 2K scan and restoration, compare to your impressions?
they aren't comparing with US release so will be comparing to older DVD
the dvdcompare review says its most likely from an older DVD master (just like the review said for the US release)
so obviously better than DVD but could do with new 4k scan

i picked up the link i posted for the AVforum review via the label's twitter feed.
have asked them if they can clarify the age / source of the scan or state if it's a new one.
it's something of a constant battle to pick apart the level of effort (or not) involved in the central feature transfer on any film.
too much room for speculation, which ever label you're trying to figure out to purchase from.
i've spent the last week watching people picking apart criterion's as-then-unannounced godzilla set, assuming the wording of the press release and ambiguity of how transfers are talked about in such text are indicative (or not) of what it will turn out to be like. oddly, i think the arguments will diminish this releases' punch considerably, and not solve anything, or continue long after it's actually out. probably initiated and perpetuated out of boredom or frustration of knowing the announcement was likely coming, but delayed by a week or so.
anyway, i remain interested in 'one deadly summer' but i'd like to know if there's a point at which it's quality will match a price it could drop to. about £8, it seems at this point in time.... not £17!
yeh what's weird as McCrutchy said is they've put more effort in to the extras it seems,
who knows maybe that's all they could do and weren't willing to do new 4k scan
still £17 is better than £25 or whatever price US is
Opera is in the 2 for £25 at Fopp/HMV so this should be in there hopefully already or in near future, which is a fair price for me to buy

never seen it before. been a fan of french cinema since i was a teenager - turn 46 in a week or so - but never found where the guidance was on the better stuff, either on DVD or on BD (which i'd go for now) despite how it was once said to have the best cinema in the world. what i know of and like is fairly limited, restricted to what once got shown in the UK on late night TV slots decades ago.
i generally wait for the price on pretty much anything to drop, due to level of money available to me and not wanting to see them drop once i've already bought it. also have a backlog. any recommendations welcome - prefer 70s films onwards more than anything prior to it unless unusual by comparison to most.
Finally got to watch this tonight. It's a terrific film and the Blu-ray is quite good, although I'm more convinced than ever that the UK Blu-ray probably uses the same encode as the US Blu-ray. In his review, Svet seemed to believe that the HD master dates back to at least the 2010 US DVD release, and I would probably agree. The picture looks very good in many ways, but it also tends towards more of a DVD "look" in terms of the fleshtones and while grain is visible, the picture lacks the depth and filmic qualities I have tended to see in more recent 4K/2K scans. I will admit that on first viewing, I didn't really find any encoding issues, other than perhaps a bit of noise mixed with the grain in dark areas, but to be fair, I wasn't looking for problems once I got into the film.
I didn't get a chance to look at the extras, but they look good, and I think I like the idea of the French documentary on Japrisot better than interviews, though obviously, it would have been great to get the two other interviews from the US disc as well.
