Actually, these responses are probably exactly what he is looking for. If we agreed with him, there'd be nothing to do but together in one big pity party. He never offers any suggestions on how to fight his imagined and inevitable home video apocalypse; he just wants to spread the contagion of fear like a modern day Typhoid Mary.

By disagreeing with him, a lengthy series of claims and rebuttals ensue focusing lots of attention upon him. I think he might just crave that attention like any garden variety troll.

You guys are worried about the wrong thing, sure HT will change but what should concern everyone is Internet Access. Here is a Link from DSL Reports on getting 500Mbps.

https://www.telecompetitor.com/broad...ten-exceed-60/

I say Wired is the way to go, and FTTH is the Gold Standard with Symmetrical Speeds. I think 4K will be the last Disc, and TV Shows and Movie access will be Server based. Physical for 8K will probably be on SSD and costly!

This has got me wondering, could we return to analogue broadcast with 5 or 6 channels. Could we end up going back to the 50’s with Black And White broadcasts? Or worse, SD broadcasts?

Will that spark a battle between Netflix, Facebook, Disney for a space on that 5 or 6 channel limited capacity? Biggest bidders win? This would mean a linear channel with old fashioned broadcasting and ads of course. We would be back to a tv schedule and appointment viewing.

Or.........is satellite tv more environmentally friendly than broadband and 5G and could we see a combsck for those technologies.

In this scenario, TV sets would probably go back to 32-37 inches. The smaller the better if you can’t tolerate a mobile screen, right?

Or....... very worst case scenario, we don’t have access to video content anymore. We go back to pre war times, with radio and books and not much else.

More evidence of thought patterns

https://earther.gizmodo.com/your-bin...ing-1836311475

Watch less content. It seems I’m not alone and it’s surely a matter of time until this subject enters the public domain.

Binge shaming, call it what you will. Also, reading between the lines of some comments, it’s not hard to see data caps being the perfect excuse to introduce ‘restrictions on access to data’. That comment made me feel sick.
Wow!, there is a whole lot of here that I overlooked with my initial reply. I must have had my "BS" filter set to extreme during the first reading. I will respond to select portions that I have underlined and ignore the redundant parts; I have to shield myself from some of the mega here.

Cable/ satellite TV and internet/ cell phone service has been taxed for decades. Data caps are nothing new, either.

Consumption is only limited by one's free time. No government is going to impose restrictions unless you are thinking of moving to N. Korea or somewhere similar. Please consider moving there!

Now you have us losing online color photos! Too ridiculous to respond to with anything but laughter.

There are people who want to return to the 1950s alright, but not for fewer TV channels or for black and white broadcasts. We will never be limited to "5 or 6" channels ever again nor to standard definition broadcasts. We are moving forward, not backwards. Well, most of us are at least.

TVs are getting bigger, not smaller. The sales data proves it. If someone dislikes a small phone screen, why would they want a TV that is "the smaller, the better?"

Find your cave now and let me help you seal yourself away inside it. Short of WWIII we will never be reduced to just radio and books and if we survived WWIII we likely would have larger concerns than TV.

You should really compile a complete list of all of your predictions in one long post so that we can all marvel at the epic scale of your divine madness. Call it your "greatest hits", but don't be surprised if we call it something different.

You really do not want to know what your "thought patterns" have to say about you.

I can get 1 Gbps in my tiny little village now. It just costs about $155 per month after the promo period ends.

Really, you prefer a wired connection, who coulda guessed? I think you have only told us this a few billion times. Thanks for the reminder, tho.

You don't need symmetrical speeds to stream as there is virtually no upload involved after initially connecting to a streaming provider. Streaming providers only list download speeds in their streaming requirements; they never even mention upload speeds. Wendell has also shown you exactly how much uploading occurs with streaming and it was trivial, but you often dismiss facts that do not support your position.

4K may well be the last physical format and I can live with that if need be as it is superior to 4K streaming in every possible way.

There are many ways that 8K content could be delivered with physical media; there are prototype discs in existence now such as Holographic Versatile Disc, same size as a blu-ray disc, but with a capacity of 6 TB. The devices that read them are too costly at present, so they remain a mere concept.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hologr...Versatile_Disc

The real problem is that there is extremely little 8K content to deliver by any means and there are few indicators that much is forthcoming beyond a few youtube shorts. And we all know that short subjects ARE the only future, right?

When you dare to disagree with a visionary, of course you are just another lemming like the rest of us.

So, essentially with that being an issue, it does more to work against your narrative of streaming completely taking over, rather than support it.

I don't expect streaming to go away, but until there is not only consistent infrastructure in almost all areas for high speed internet, but also at a reasonable affordable price, it will do more to work against streaming digital content on a regular basis, especially in 4K and even more especially in the case of ISPs that have data caps.

Something that baffles me is, why troll in media threads you don’t support. Both alchav21 and Steedeel are guilty of this

Trolls want reactions. Where better to get a reaction than to go into a thread that favors or compares something only to then say that that something sucks and/or is doomed? Threads with a "vs" in their titles are like aphrodisiacs to a troll in heat attracting them from far and wide.

Have you ever visited the Star Wars threads here, especially the ones comparing the prequels to the original trilogy? Some fine trolling has occurred there, too.

Well, to be clear on the newer title of the thread. That was some mod trying to be clever when they moved and renamed it. That decision still chaps the ass a bit. Especially now that they’re are so many threads discussing the same topic.

Still, I’ve got a GIF or two in the chamber for whatever clever response I get at this point. I’ll see your trolls...and raise you a circle jerk throughout the forum. Everyone is a critic and could have made a better you name it

Funny how everyone could have made a better whatever, but somehow never did.

Kinda like those that claim that they can see the future, but somehow they have never profited from their amazing foresight.

If you're referencing that story you posted a couple months ago about the carbon costs of data centers and the idea that youtube could cut their carbon emissions by not limiting the video data they were transmitting we're they talking about video data that people weren't watching in the first place? The video data associated with minimized windows playing the background?

Let me guess...that's where it starts?

There you go with your labelling. No troll here. A troll goes out of his/her way to cause hurt. I think you and Vilya probably fit that bill more than I do. Kettle black and all that!

No, it said Facebook could charge a fee to upload colour pictures or only allow Black and White images. I was referring to that. It’s in the articles.

As we speak web programmers are working on getting their sites down to Kb rather than Mb. This can be achieved by returning to the old fashioned static pages with standard fonts, no video, no dynamic windows or graphics, compressed pictures rather than the big sized photos that currently accompany articles and finally no auto playing video or pop up ads.

Youtube have already made it optional to turn off videos for audio tracks. There will be huge cuts made on the service side and consumer side before this is all done.

Gifs take up a lot of space by the way!
