Wish it was Eyes Wide Shut. Now that would have been something. And in 4K.
IMO, I think there should be a one week posting ban in this thread for anyone who suggests, either explicitly or by implication, that any film released by Criterion does not deserve to be in the Collection.

Yeah because people aren’t allowed to have an opinion right?

Haven’t got a clue about #2000, but here’s hoping #2001 will be the 16K Kubrick box set.

It's a tired and arrogant refrain.

I have no problem with people disliking a film and saying they're not going to buy it, but if Criterion themselves deem it worthy of inclusion in their Collection, it deserves to be released.

Either way I love this and will get since my birthday is the 28.
They have re-released films a number of times into later box sets. For example, Brief Encounter is Spine #76 but was included in the box "David Lean Directs Noël Coward" which is spine #603 along with 3 new titles (#604-606 respectively).

Yeah but Criterion themselves use the tag line “The Criterion Collection, a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films, presents” and if people don’t feel a film fits that mold they should be able to express it.

The Japanese version of Kong vs Godzilla is huge news!
The prior Universal releases of that movie have only included the English version.

BTW you can preorder it on Criterion for about $170 (way better than $230).

Considering stuff like Son of Godzilla & Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla are way out of print (and go for several hundred dollars now) this seems like a great deal.
Plus the total goof-up by Media Blasters regarding Destroy All Monsters & Godzilla vs Megalon means those are hard to find as well.

If you don't think the Godzilla films (yes, even the sequels) are "important" then, well, I don't know what to tell you.

And what are you hoping to achieve by expressing it? That they won't release films such as these?

Apart from the fact that perhaps many people feel that they do fit the mold, it's patently obvious that this release is generating a lot of buzz which will translate into lots of sales for Criterion.

Like I said, it's a tired and arrogant refrain that gets repeated pretty much monthly when someone decides to zero in on a title that they deem to be "not worthy".

Yeah but, in 2012 they released Tiny Furniture. Nothing surprises me & any film deserves a Criterion release for those who enjoy it.

And this from a guy who has Bronson in his username - an actor not represented in the Criterion Collection in any form. (Even if it refers to the Tom Hardy movie, ditto.)

I never even said it wasn’t worthy. I’m just saying if people have that opinion they should be able to express it without some ridiculous ban.

All I said is they seem more of something Arrow would release.

Of course I wasn't actually suggesting people be banned. It was a facetious post meant to illustrate a point.

RCRochester said there should be a week ban for anyone that says a film shouldn’t be in the collection. And I was just telling him that ridiculous and people should be able to state their opinion.

I get it and I’m just saying people should be able to state what they want to state. Just ignore it.

And I wasn’t implying it. I just said I could see it under Arrows line over Criterion’s.
