Most age related vision issues are easily corrected and having a friend who is an optometrist is an added perk.
It's the loss of bladder control that you really get to look forward to; it makes "piss taking", a favorite expression of yours, much more spontaneous. ![]() Not that I would know, personally; no plumbing problems here...yet. |

Ducked and dodged.
Fixed that for you. I see that you still are causing those space hoggin' GIFs to be reposted when you quote people. It is obvious that you don't give a damn about your carbon footprint with all of your redundant GIF reposting. Your apathy not only harms our environment, you are also contributing to the death of the very movies that you claim to love along with the big color TVs that we watch them with. You hypocrite. You traitor. ![]() ![]() I'm still waiting for an answer to my question; you know it well. It is the one that you avoid every time that I ask it: If your many and entirely gloomy predictions have any merit (that was hard to type without laughing aloud), what are we supposed to do about them? And a few equally avoided follow-up queries: If these dismal outcomes are as inevitable as you imply, what is even the point of discussing them? Are we supposed to mourn the death of all we enjoy while they yet live? If so, why? What good comes of worrying about unavoidable fates? I may as well start worrying about my death by your "logic" as it is an actual indisputable certainty. It seems better to me to enjoy our lives and all the many pleasures it contains than to squander our precious time pondering the pointless, such as the imagined and inescapable dooms that you foretell. Data centers, otoh, will be able to take advantage of alternate power sources (wind, solar, nuclear, what have you) as they become increasingly available. If carbon emissions get taxed data centers will have alternatives that aviation does not. Quote:

And for the people who do care about HD and 4K? Well, we can just keep buying bigger and bigger TVs and keep buying discs, no? Quote:

The above is a picture of my home theater in 1991. The awesomely large 48" TV is a front projection Sony that my brother law-in gave to me when he upgraded; it is a model from the mid 1980s and at the time I thought a screen that size was amazing despite its lower than even DVD resolution. We loved big screens way back then as much as we do now. The actual best TV in that room for picture quality was the 26" Mitsubishi TV on the far left, but it seemed so small compared to the old Sony. Three items in this picture are still in my home theater today! |

One move ago I had to put my two CRT projectors in basement storage and this past move I decided to just leave them there. They were too heavy and bulky to move just so they could take up space in a storage shed.
There really isn't anything useful (or even decorative) I could have done with them in the new place (and they were in storage at the old place for over ten years) but abandoning them still broke my heart. Those things threw many a DVD onto a 94" screen in their day. At least my last SD set (a 36" Sony Wega) found a good home with my brother-in-law. They actually held onto it until a few years ago. Good times. |

I only recently helped an older couple set-up their two brand new 65" 4K TVs, his and her TVs, and what do they mostly watch on them? They mostly watch their standard definition cable TV channels even though they also receive the high definition version of those same channels; the low def channels are listed first in the on-screen channel guide, so that's what they watch. ![]() The wife at least has a blu-ray player connected to hers and she still buys blu-ray discs. I offered to let them try my Netflix subscription out to see if they would like to stream, but they both told me that they had no interest in such things. They bought my lunch and insisted that I accept $20 for my time, bless 'em. |
