So not only Dolby Vision is a mess from the very beginning, it's getting even messier. Good job, Dolby!

Seems like either the responsibility to fix DV gets passed around or Dolby are just being stupid about the whole thing. Luckily haven't noticed clipped highlights much on my player, though Spider-Man: Homecoming was almost too dark to watch at times. Saving Private Ryan didn't really look dark in DV though I haven't tried HDR10 to compare. Dim DV is mainly(only?) a Sony problem though from what I've gathered.

All the issues you are reporting regarding Dolby Vision are so serious as to default to the HDR 10 layer?
What does Dolby have to say about it? Panasonic players are not the only ones that are problematic while playing Dolby Vision, I don't understand what is Dolby really thinking or doing with their product. |

I’ve reported it to Panasonic and Pioneer, each email was CC’d to Dolby. Plus an email to my direct contact at Dolby (but he’s in the commercial division) hoping he can get any response from the home video division. But nothing... I received absolutely nothing from Dolby.

So I have a xbox one s as my uhd player and am very happy with it. But was saving my pennies for the 820. Cause i wanted Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Although after reading parts of this forum I am wondering is it worth me spending $600 NZD. Is it going to be that much of better experience than my trusty old xbox?

On the 9000, does anyone know why there is no time display information on some DVD discs? Every UHD, and normal BD have the running time displayed.

If you have a Dolby Vision capable display, then yes, it's worth it. You'll basically see a brighter HDR picture that better utilises the dynamic range of your display, on Dolby Vision discs. Ditto for HDR10+ although that's less supported on the display side.
Don't expect to see a huge difference on standard BD or non-DoVi or non-HDR10+ titles though. Except for... the Xbox One S at least (can't vouch for the other models) seem to skip a frame every 20-30 minutes or so. But it sounds like that hasn't bothered you this far. |

Thanks for the replies guys. I have a 65 Sony x900f so looking forward to the Dolby Vision. And who knows maybe in the the future my next tv will be HDR10+ capable. But you have put me back on the 820 path. Old story, sometimes when looking to buy something you read up too much info on that product and your pretty much sold on it and then you read a couple of negative forums and it's back to square one.
Keep looking for the good and don't go looking too hard for the bad stuff and you won't find it. ![]() |

I also use 900F. I doubt Sony will ever use HDR10+ if it’s merely for Sony’s pride only. Quite honestly, HDR10+ was designed for lower quality TVs and/or TVs with brightness lower than 1000 nits such as my Panasonic OLEd. So at the quality level of X900F, you don’t need HDR10+
The above are just my opinion. |

Okay so need to worry about HDR10+, so am i still looking at the 820 for Dolby vision goodness? Or is there another player (reliable) that is in the mix as well?
