Well, my sending a PM has back fired. Now my 7 posts about median household incomes have been removed and the thread has been closed. Questioning authority, even politely, proves dangerous again; I could be next for having had the hubris to ask "why?"

Keep to the straight and narrow path and stay laser focused on topic; many of our fellow forum members have their mouse poised over that "report post" icon. I guess I better say something now about the future of home video lest I invite the wrath of the thread police. I think in the future movies will come in pill form like vitamins do now. You swallow the pill that contains the movie that you want to see and the movie just plays inside your head. If it is a more cerebral and thought provoking film it will come in the form of a Flintstones chewable vitamin so that you can really sink your teeth into the content. Obviously, shitty movies will come in the form of a suppository. ![]() Last edited by Vilya; 07-30-2019 at 03:45 AM. |

It seems you weren’t, because that’s the third time you have spat the dummy out about that nickname. Again, when things are tipped over, some of you guys don’t like it. Meanwhile, it’s fine for you and Donster to make references to my mental health on a regular basis. Anyway, back on topic. It’s old ground. |

Hey guys, Sound & Vision has an Article on the "Coming Boom in Home Theater":
https://www.soundandvision.com/conte...m-home-theater I agree with this, people love their HT to watch their favorite Movies and TV Shows. The latest TV Models make it so much easier to access any Content. If you are set up properly everything is at your finger tips, you don't have to move a muscle! |

![]() Voice activated devices are just another name for listening devices. I do not want my home to be filled with internet connected eaves dropping microphones. These devices have already been proven to listen in on private conversations and to sometimes share them with unintended recipients. They have proven to be hackable as well as they have very poor security protecting them. No thanks; I don't want electronic bugs in my home. https://www.washingtonpost.com/techn...&noredirect=on ^Alexa has been eavesdropping on you this whole time https://gizmodo.com/the-amazon-alexa...rue-1831231490 ^The Amazon Alexa Eavesdropping Nightmare Came True ^"An Amazon user in Germany recently requested data about his personal activities and inadvertently gained access to 1,700 audio recordings of someone he didn’t know." https://www.huffpost.com/entry/alexa...b0fdb2aa51b23e ^Amazon Admits Alexa Device Eavesdropped On Portland Family I don't want increased, or entire, dependence upon the internet for my entertainment, either. Putting all of your eggs in one internet required basket is a bad idea. You will be placing yourself at the complete mercy of your ISP and how is that not a recipe for disaster? The cost to access content via the internet will only get more expensive unlike physical media which has a one time cost to purchase and requires no increasingly pricey internet service to use. Finally, if you do not possess your content, you have no control over it. No amount of convenience can overcome this fact. Last edited by Vilya; 07-31-2019 at 12:18 AM. |

In a long thread, such as this one with nearly 17,000 posts, people join in at different points; they certainly are not going to read such a massive thread from the very beginning. For them, the comments that they read may be new and therefore quite relevant. Members routinely ask questions that have already been answered and they should be permitted to do so even if you or I find them to be tiresome. How many times do people post these fascinating questions: Does it come with a slip cover? Has your copy from such and such vendor shipped yet? Is the included blu-ray remastered? Where should I redeem my code? Often these questions were answered already just a page or two back, but so what? People argue endlessly over whether a movie is good or bad, whether 4K is worth it, whether 8K is worth it, whether HDR is crayons, whether or not it is the end of the world as we know it, and they will always do so. Skip over anything that makes your eyes glaze over and move onto a post that interests you. I can determine if a post interests me in a matter of seconds and I bet you can, too. Further, over time you get to know whether or not you want to read a specific member's comments. It is not hard to skip the posts from people whose remarks historically have disappointed you. If their posts are unbearably annoying, you can place them on ignore. No one makes you read anything that you do not want to read. These forums are informal social media, not a college debate that follows a prescribed structure and time allocation. People with varying degrees of knowledge, different perspectives, and diverse personalities post here and they should be allowed to express themselves without undue censorship, or "editing" if you prefer, provided they remain civil. No one here is obligated to entertain you. After all, who exactly would you have determine which posts have merit? The mods are human, too, and they are each their own person; are you sure that you would agree with every decision made by each one of them regarding post worthiness? A closer look at your posting history would likely reveal some redundancy, irrelevancy, and topic digression, too, at least from someone's point of view. Your posts are no more, and no less, worthy of inclusion here than are those of any of us. Last edited by Vilya; 07-31-2019 at 07:49 AM. |
