Default Mirage OMD-C2 Center Speaker Placement

I want to place this speaker over my plasma. Its suggested to place speaker under a screen (which i belive would give best results.)
The speaker is 25 inches long and has 15 inches depth. The way the speaker is made Iam wondering if it would still sound good on top and get away with it.

I won the speaker and have not paid for it yet.

I want to know before i pay for it how the heck iam going to place it in my home.I could raise my Plasma 10 inches(the speaker is 10 inches H) and place it on my stand which holds my equipment but it will be tight(Speaker going over the top of the stand 2 inches).

I want this speaker and i don`t want to come across ungrateful but its so big.
Does anyone know of anyone that has a speaker like this over there Plasma or LCD (can you do that with this speaker, sound wise anyways).

Placing the speaker on a stand in front of my equipment is not an option for me

man thats a big center! the only problems id see placing this on top would be
- directionality in relations to your fronts - you wont have a smooth panning effect if you had this placed on top of your tv, and not match your fronts. IDEALLY, we'd have the fronts baffles match the speaker placement of the center. but thats relative in everyones setup. its not doable in most situations.

- since its a omnimount you'd have a lot of spatiality lost up 'top' so to speak, thus not getting the envelopment you'd want if it were properly placed closer to the sweetspot. you can try to point it towards the listening area, but im not sure if you'd get the best results out of it.

- lastly, is the weight. considering how heavy that is (sorry, couldnt check im at work), it might be difficult to find a good shelving unit to mount it that high. id be careful placing that up there.

Thanks Brother

Ive been messaging prerich this morning (My speaker Guy ) and iam going to place it below.
To much work trying to keep it on top.

All my center channels have been on top of my viewing area so it will be a big change for me ,but at the same token its a big center .

Can`t wait to hear it and how it sounds with my fronts .It will be here sometime next week (ive been waiting a long time to get a Mirage center for timber matching).

Ive read nothing except good things about this center. I guess when it came out it was $2000. I got it for 400 new which i think is a good deal

so, decided yet as to what kinda stand your getting?

if i may suggest tho, get a dedicated center thats adjustable.

there are many out there, (im at work, cant do that just yet, too busy), but some can angle your speakers towards the listening area.

also, you can also decouple your speakers from the mount using mopads. (ive suggested these to robandtami before, and aside from financial reasons, they are a solid investment)

if you wanted to ensure proper timber matching in regards to center channel, were you ever on the hunt for the exact match to your fronts, the MC-si? http://www.sdinfo.com/volume_4_4/images/miragemcsi.jpg

that sucker is hard to find tho, but man its a beast of a center also!

I know of it and i hunted for a years in a half.A couple times i came close .
i just said enough is enough.
This speaker i got was the closes to the M series for what i need.I talked to some people in Mirage and they said i would be fine.it would timber

I also found someone with a M-1si and this center and he highly recommended it.So i pulled the trigger.

I will definitely let you boys know how it sounds but i have a funny feeling i won't be disappointed

I bought a new shelf and when i put it on its side
its the measurements i need to lift the Plasma on and leaves healthy space on my top stand (for the center) which hold my equipment below.

Iam going to skin it with black speaker cloth, make a small hole in the center of the back in front of the shelf so my wire can come through it and it will sit on the top of my stand (the top of the stand is fairly big) just below the plasma. It a big center and it will fill the space HxLxD thats for sure

LOL Man wish me luck,Its important for me to make it look as good as possible
,well will see

just a quick heads up before you start working on your centerstand, IF you do plan on purchasing some mopads, you may want a clearance of around 3 inches or so (again im at work, i cant verify)...

its the best investment ive had for my front LCR

mopads

you can find them mostly in guitar center stores if ever. best of luck to your new project.

That speaker looks awesome. Use a short stand and keep it under the screen.

ive suggested it to a few people on board, as much as id like to, some members might take things a little personal, and start acting up.

these decouple your speaker, simply put removes the interaction between your speaker, and whatever you are placing your speaker on (table, speaker stand et al) and lets it 'speak' on its own.

heres a quick article on the benefits of decoupling...

here

mind you, this isnt like that article back around 2004-ish or so on certain forums, about placing quarters on the front face of the speaker, then putting a dime in the center to 'further enhance' the 'imaging' of the speakers...

old schoolers would know this one.

Iam getting it after 4 o'clock Today

All morning i set my system up.Remember O.C.D
The Plasma is 11 inches off the stand and the center will sit on top of the Stand. So its below the plasma and the speaker is below my ears in my listening position.

I always suspected that men look at their audio/video equipment sexually.
