U.S. cut is a masterpiece. Euro cut is for those who suffer from ADHD.

both are Director's Cuts by Kubrick
the Euro Cut being the Final Director's Cut if Kubrick thought US was a masterpiece he wouldn't have cut any of it why did he cut for example the skeleton scene and not one of the other scenes ? well because he never liked it as much ? and felt it unnecessary ? otherwise he would have cut something else and left it in |

I think the skeleton scene actually works because the Hotel's inherent evil decay is finally revealing itself. |

Careful. That's the one that really gets the Brits' pitchforks out. They'll put a hex on your family for even suggesting there might be some value in that shot.

Honestly I like both versions, it would be nice to include the 2.
I went with a friend to see the re-release a year ago of the UK version and he loved the movie. But a few months ago I saw the US version with another friend who had never seen the movie, but he did not like it because it was very long and heavy. The US version is better for me but if I have to show it to someone who never saw it, I would start with the UK version that is shorter. It's my opinion only ![]() |

When the UK version popped up on sites, the picture used for the place-holder (which is still being used) states "4K ULTRA HD + BLU-RAY + EXTENDED CUT" so if the UK version is anything less than the International (shorter) cut in 4K then I along with many others will not be happy and it will effect how I buy going forward. The image didn't just appear from the beyond, it clearly suggests that the version in 4K is the shorter cut and that is the one I have pre-ordered this set for.
WB clearly intended to offer that version in 4K or else the picture would not exist and retailers have accepted our pre-orders with that in mind. |

it's not been confirmed by anyone yet AFAIK if UK or US will get International Cut on 4k UHD
but cinema 4k release was 144m version and as they are only listed as 2 disc the more likely outcome is UK might get different BD than US gets but I think both will get 144m on UHD also bear in mind they released this as 146m version which is wrong too ![]() all previous UK Shining Releases on BD have been shorter version except for most recent premium release which was US 144m on BD and had the International on DVD but that DVD was 1.33 not 1.78 like the BD's ![]() |
